850 AM tonight - WKNR on day pattern at night tonight?

I'm listening to the Dodgers vs Braves MLB game right now on WKNR/Cleveland from Vermilion, OH There's no way they can be on night power as they are clear as a bell just like during the day. If you want a rare opportunity to get WKNR at night, try 850 now.

I just tried 850, and sure enough, it's Braves-Dodgers mixing with KOA, here northwest of Chicago. KOA is on top...but just barely. Perhaps someone at WKNR assumes the FCC isn't monitoring during the shutdown. If they are...as stated in another thread...then the joke could be on them.

After I went to bed last night, while monitoring the band I dialed past 850 expecting to hear KOA as usual. WKNR was POUNDING in, completely wiping out KOA. I have never heard that before.

I'll have to check tonight here in Columbus. WKNR is pretty powerful in Columbus daytime ... wondering if we'd be in the cancellation zone at night? I've heard phasing here in critical hours.

Sounds like WKNR is already on night pattern this time...but I'll keep a listen to see if it stays that way. I did catch a new station just now before they signed off for the night...WAIT/Crystal Lake, IL. They signed off with the National Anthem at 7:10pm EDT. Also heard an unknown station with Spanish music mixing in with WAIT and WKNR. A Cuban 850 perhaps?

Just a guess, but you may have been hearing KJON Carrollton (suburban Dallas). They're daytime only with 5,000 watts and big portion of their pattern definitely favors your direction.

What's WKNR's Day Pattern?

I missed my chance to possible to get it here

But with KOA in the Way

Here is WKNR's daytime pattern:

Tonight, as last night they have switched to night pattern as scheduled. As you can see they have a major lobe going SSW so Columbus, OH gets them like a local during the day. For you to hear them at night, KOA would probably have to be off the air and there would need to be excellent E/W conditions for WKNR to make it out there and of course they would need to be on day power. I'll post again if I happen to get them very strong at night like I did on 10/7.

Tonight I logged another new station for me on 850 - KFUO/Clayton, MO (St. Louis) with ID and sign-off at 8pm EDT. Fair signal mixing with several other stations.

What time do they switch on Night Pattern?

I'm going to be in West Sacramento for like 1 1/2 weeks in December going to keep my eye on 850
