850 turns spanish christian

BBBBBBBooooooooooooooooooooooooo!!!!!!!!!!
That sucks!!!.....

This is about money. If Newsweb can make a profit brokering a station for the hispanic community whose transmitter is 35 miles from the loop, go for it.

IMHO, its a better use of the facility than it's present application.

I just wonder how many evangelical hispanic ministers are there who use radio as a medium and who want to target the Chicago market. ??? A quick check suggests there are 26 spanish language stations nationawide that are listed either as "Christian" or "Religious" Nearly all are in Texas or California.

It would have been better if WAIT returned to Big Band and Nostalgia!!!

So La Promesa has been playing Christian music in English with English announcements so far, so they haven't gotten their act together yet.
Well, if this format flops perhaps that heavy metal station on 1500 could add 850 for better coverage!!!

I find it bizarre they have an english website and are playing english songs. This station seems to be similiar to "we play anything". That station that did not "play anything" & the new one is not in "spanish". Small inconsistency. BTW Crystal Lake is closer to 45 air miles to downtown chicago.

And since "MarcB" hasn't discovered this thread yet, I'll go ahead and say that one of those stations is WXCT in suburban Hartford, CT.

Respectfully, Enough? Who is counting?

AARRGHH! Are YOU Spanish?

If not, how do YOU know there are "enough?" The market place will decide that, won't they?

Competing w/wgn,or wscr is not an option. Finding their "niche" is good.

I think this is our 4th or 5th Christian station, if I am not mistaken. I'm into the new age side of things. Shows like Coast to Coast AM and Advice Line with Roy Masters appeal to me and recently WLS cut two hours off the program just to squeeze some Trucker's program in there (Truckers listen to Coast to Coast too :-/) And WIND completely cut Roy Masters out.

SPANISH Christian is the key. Hispanics are c ertaily a sought after demographic, and you and I already have 40+ other stations to choose from.

I believe that Masters is on a few flamethrowers. I suggest you go to his website and investigate.

You can hear Roy Masters on AM 1530 WCKY in Cincinnati from 3:30 AM until 4:30 AM(Chicago Time). Some nights
it comes in well, other nights there is a lot of fade out. They are 50kw day and night, but, they are directional to the east,
at night, which causes a lot more fading than some other stations. I would say give it a try you will at least hear most of
the show. Since the antenna for AM is inside the radio, try and adjust your radio to the south/southeast. If that does not
work for you go to his website and listen live. You can listen live from Midnight-2AM, with repeats from 2AM-4AM(These
are all Chicago times). You can also get podcasts of all his shows.

The website is www.fhu.com
