850 WAIT.

Now that the swap with WCPT is complete, what is 850 WAIT playing? Do they have a brokered line up in place, or are they running a symocast of another News Web station? Or possibly, are they just playing music, and if so, what? I'm out of ear shot, so anything you can tell me would be appreciated. Thanks.

I listened Monday and Tuesday morning and they were playing promos taped by the WCPT hosts. They were playing bumper
music in between. They also had the station PD or manager (not sure which) giving out the phone number to call if you want
to broker a show on the station, they were also saying if you liked the music clips to tune to NINE FM at 92.7(they did not
mention 92.5 or 99.9.) To sum it up they don't really have any programming on they just keep saying to move 3 clicks to
the right Chicago's Progressive Talk is now on 820AM.

Well! that's what happens when you get those Cockroaches, who had invaded the airwaves on 850.
and they've stoled from the poor senior citizens who used to listen to nostelgia music when it was used
to be an adult standerd radio station back then.

I made a little mistake in my previous post, I meant to say three clicks to the left(850 to 820)not to the right. Sorry bout dat. ::)
You should know better than that. The folks at 850 wouldn't be caught dead moving to the right; now would they? Ha ha But seriously, that would have been funny if they had to move to the right of the dial instead of the left. Imagine the following promo. "WCPT is moving to the right! But don't pannick, it's Not our political philosophy, just our dial position!"

Speaking of AM-850, while I was on my way to work this morning, I happened to pick up KOA AM-850 coming from Denver CO. at around 06:30am. They were coming in like gang busters! The weather report for Denver throughout the day will be between 65 to 70 degrees according to KOA AM-850....

What comes next on 850 will be illuminating. I can't imagine that they will start another format unless they want to keep the inventory down for brokering airtime. They need a full time brokered format like the catholics had to use up all those hours on 850 AM. Good Luck to them.

So, are they stil playing liners by the Air America Crew telling listeners to move to 820? I'm surprised that they aren't doing Christmas music while they figure things out. I really wish I could hear them.

The Cockroaches of Air America don't even give a damn about christmas music,
alls they care about politics and making money for themselves to raise money for
the next presidential election to see who will be the next president in the democratic
race for 2008. Both AM-850 & AM-820 may continue on like this all the way through
the next election in 2008.....

Brian, Yep still playing the same thing. Good idea on playing Christmas music though, I am sure their listeners have to know that they
moved to the rig??? I mean left by now. I'm sorry I couldn't resist ;D

Because there just aren't enough stations playing Christmas music, huh?

Incidently, Air America does not own the station. Newsweb does. But you already knew that, right? Actually, WCPT carries more JRN shows than Air America shows.

JRN??? What is JRN? If I'm correct, Does JRN stands for "Japan Radio Network"?

If I'm wrong, What Is JRN???....

Jones Radio Networks. They syndicate Bill Press, Stephanie Miller and Ed Schultz.

Hey guys, the management of the stations is hawking for brokers to buy time on the station. Personally, I thjink they should be playing a smorgasboard of "ethnic" music on the station during this interim.

And so what if it does? I don't see WLS turning to Christmas music, and why should they? And they are conservative cockroaches. But I don't see you whining about them. Hey, why doesn't Fox News go all Christmas music? After all, they are the ones who are crying about having Christmas taken away from them. And they are the cockiest roaches of them all.

Want to know why? Because their only concern is making money as well. But you shed no crocodile tears over them, do you?

Please stop attempting to couch your blatant political views as some sort of concern over the programming at 850-AM. Be glad that we actually have some local ownership of radio. There's very little of it, and pissing and moaning about 850-AM not playing Christmas music or Kate Smith or Guy Lombardo or whatever looks like nothing but sour grapes.

When NewsWeb figures out what best to do with 850-AM, they'll do it. Fred Eychaner is an awfully sharp guy. I'm guessing that brokering is their best bet. They did it before with 850-AM. The only thing that hurts them is the signal quality. It doesn't have the power and reach of WNDZ 750-AM, one of their other properties, which booms over from Portage, IN. That signal covers the Chicago area very nicely, and is doing well brokering ethnic.

Of course, I am not whining about anything, it's others on this board who are whining about Christmas Music.
If Newsweb wants to go all ethnic broker station, so be it! I don't give two peas in a pie! in what they do.
because I don't listen to this station anyway. I just want to see what others on this board have to say,
because I used to listen to AM-850 when it was adult standard music a long while back.....

Fred Eychaner is a sharp business man. I know it is probably wishful thinking in today's radio world, but I wish he would do with
WAIT what he did with NINE-FM. That is take a chance, he might not be getting great ratings but he is giving Chicago something
different especially for the people who liked ENERGY 927/5 with Dance Factory. I don't listen to dance music that often but I know
a lot of people who listen to it all the time, and sometimes I like to turn it on when I'm in the mood for something different. I
think if he was not making a profit on the FM stations he would have pulled the plug on them already. I don't really want to see
another brokered AM station, I think we have enough already. I know that is probably what he will do with WAIT,but as a person
in my twenties I wish he would put an ez hits/ nostalgia format on, with a real Chicago feel about it, just like with Dance Factory, it would be nice to have the option to listen to something different on the radio. I know some people will say get XM or Sirius or an
Ipod, but if radio owners especially local guys like Fred don't start programming stations that people want to listen to and not just
cookie-cutter formats radio is going to keep losing people. I really love radio and I would like to see it viable for a long time to come.
Unfortunately Fred is was one of the last of the local owners and if he doesn't help save radio as we know it who will Clear Chanel and CBS?

For someone who doesn't care what happens to the station, your ambivalence seems to carry a lot of bitterness.

By the way, Fred Eychaner didn't "invade" 850-AM; he bought it. As far as I know, that allows him to do what he damned well pleases with it. If Eychaner's acquisition of 850-AM was done nefariously, I suggest you turn over what information you have to authorities immediately.

If the "theft" of adult standards from "poor senior citizens" on 850-AM was such an earth-shattering event, why, after so much time has passed, hasn't it reappeared somewhere else? There are a number of formats that I think belong on the airwaves that don't appear, simply because they would not prove profitable.

Radio is an expensive proposition, and in order to break even, much less turn a profit, one needs to play by the rules of the game. And one of those rules is that older demos don't sell well. Not fair? Perhaps. But it is what it is.

Let me ask you, since you seem to believe standards should reappear on 850-AM, what have you done personally to contact Eychaner and convince him that he should "give back" what he so nastily "stole" from the seniors? What information can you present to him that would disprove what any number of media buyers would tell him? I mean, short of just belly-aching about it. How many of your friends have you convinced to do the same?

Call them him and NewsWeb what you will, but Eychaner and Co. are the cockroaches that hold the license and own the broadcast facility. And until you pony up the cash and buy it from them, it makes you less than a cockroach in this situation.

In all fairness to Fred Eychaner and Newsweb, they were not the one's that pulled the nostalgia format off WAIT, that was Next Media they
had a talk format on similar to WIND'S for about 2 years before Newsweb bought it. Like I posted before I would like to see WAIT give
that format a try,but it's not fair to blame Fred and Newsweb for pulling the nostalgia format off the station.
