87.7 Cleveland's Sound

I don't think WXYT has any sort of rights in the Cleveland market. If that were the case, 92.3 wouldn't be allowed due to WMXD in Detroit. As long as it doesn't come in in Toledo (sounds very staticy there), I don't think they'll have any problems moving 97.1 into Cleveland.

I read, sometime ago, that WREO could move about 10 miles closer to Cleveland. Due to government regulations, WONE/97.5 (2nd Adjacent) and even WAKS/96.5 (3rd Adjacent) would prevent them from moving any closer to Cleveland.

Both the Cleveland and Detroit 92.3 are directional away from each other, though. 92.3's tower being in Warrensville Hts, well east of the Parma antenna farm, mitigates the situation as well. Both the 97.1 in Ashtabula and in Detroit are omnidirectional blowtorches, so the situation is somewhat different. Likewise, the Detroit and Cleveland 93.1s are directional away from each other (and 93.1's tower is near Richfield, south of most of the rest of the Cleveland sticks).

Gotta say I'm digging 87.7, especially at night when they drop a lot of the folky stuff and get heavier (they play too much Dave Matthews in my opinion, but I get he's a core AAA artist, so, eh).

Never say never, I guess. Ambrescia and Wilson could buy WREO from Ambrescia's brother, Jim (Sweet Home Ashtabula, LLC). Possible.

If WREO was to move into Cleveland, where would a tower have to go, and how much protection would they have to need to avoid dealing with Detroit? Also, would they have to avoid Akron if they don't want to deal with WAKS and WONE?

I could see AC on 102.5 or 98.3 if they don't want to move the Oldies format. Imagine, Star 102.5 and Magic Oldies 98.3. Or Oldies goes by the wayside if they don't want to kill off Country (and to avoid having WKKY create a monopoly on Ashtabula).

97.1 Cleveland's Sound does also sound pretty good. That won't be for three years if that was to happen. If not another frequency, maybe they might go into internet only if online radio picks up steam in a few years.

Have they been repeating the same string of songs since they signed on? I heard the same songs today between 8:15am to 8:30am as I did yesterday between 8:15am and 8:30am. Snow Patrol into REM into Tori Amos. Strange.......

Hey SixOnTheFloor....To me this is part of the stunting game..Until they get fully staffed.Their advertisers support. And the music library needs to be stocked. This is all the sampling of their format. I did notice the same thing. Let's give it time.. I am enjoying it ..I hope one thing they do..Drop Gwen Stefani's "it's my life" for the Talk Talk's version from the 80's..I did hear Bobby Darin's "Mack the Knife" at 2:15 am today...Interesting...This is real radio..NO CC, NO CBS BS.

I'm all for giving them time, and I'm enjoying the new station too, always good to have another option. I'm just a little shocked because with even the most basic computer automation it seems like it would be easy to shuffle up the playlist. I heard Archie say in a promo that he starts mornings next Monday, so I imagine that's when the station will be in full swing.

As Sono and VO mentioned, I wasn't saying this could move to Parma. I said closer to Cleveland. Someone brought up the separation to 97.5 but look how close 98.1 and 98.5 are.

As a side note, the strength of the video side of this station for an LP at VHF channel 6 is amazing to me. I live near Twinsburg and can't get analog channel 29 or 35 on my (basically defunct with the digital switch) Casio pocket TV, but 6 comes in almost like a local if I aim the antenna right. And that's with a very busy 88-92 FM band in this area, including WZIP at 88.1. Really surprises me. Wish 35 had this kind of signal reach back when I had a reason to watch them.

97.5, 98.1, and 98.5 fall under the "grandfathered" short spacing rules. Under the current FCC rules, WREO's transmitter must be at least 46 miles from 96.5 and 97.5. Also, WREO has to stay at least 12.4 miles from WENZ (I.F channel).

Just saw on the 87.7 Cleveland FB page their partners meeting with the House of Blues to plan events. That might get the station more listeners. Maybe next is billboards.

Well, got to listen today and here are my thoughts, FWIW. Maybe it's just my car radio, but the signal is really bad in Lorain County. Got better in Olmsted/Berea, but 99x even sounded better the entire drive to the Brook Park RTA. Any opinions from the east siders? The music is pretty good, definitely better than V was. I hope this one will succeed.

Station didn't sound too bad from northwest Geauga County through the innercity east side of Cleveland. It was strong on the car radio, and on stereos at home. I do have to find stong spots with walkman. 99X is pretty much non-existant on east side outside of iHeartRadio and 100.7 HD-2.

I think 87.7 will get a lot of east side listeners and it will be a toss up between Sound and X on west side.

The signal came in great when I was in Mayfield a couple weeks ago, and 99X was nowhere to be found. 87.7 has a ridiculous signal advantage over 99X, considering I bet a decent car stereo could receive it into Akron, Canton, and possibly beyond, since it's got the frequency all to itself.

Wonder if that has to do with interference from Canada's channel 6 (which was very easy to get at 87.7 by the lake prior to WLFM's sign-on). I haven't had any signal issues, but I've listened exclusively on the east/south sides, and the west side might be more susceptible to interference from the TV station in Canada.

First impressions:

Audio is terrible. Flat and lifeless.

Music is all over the place. More focus, please.

Morning guy is awful. Listened this morning and had to shut it off he was so bad.
