87.7 FM

So earlier this afternoon i was scanning the dial on the radio when i came across strange audio on 87.7 FM that sounded like someone either switching between channels on tv or broadcasting audio from a video service like tiktok or rumble. i was in my car and picked up around north montgomery and then it faded out around the chantilly parkway area. about 20 minutes later it was gone and just static was audible on that frequency.

could it be a pirate station or an amplied part 15 transmitter?

Possibly someone taking your same route with a powerful car transmitter?
not unless they were following me or by coincidence going to the same businesses i was.
for most of my route i was the only vehicle, especially on small rural unpaved roads.
i'm not sure of any car transmitter capable of broadcasting such a highly clear signal for atleast 20 miles.

Whole House FM transmitters are Part 15 certified and thus only tune down to 88.1 MHz.

If there is no "FrankenFM" (channel 6 LPTV station acting as an FM radio station) in this area, then what the JD heard was a pirate.
You are assuming one has bought a FCC part 15 certified transmitter. The web is flooded with transmitters that do not meet the standard. Regular person will have no clue.
