87.7 Holding Auditions?

I wonder how they're going to do the AAA format and rock mix.

A balance of new and old?
More new than old?
More old than new?
More emphasis on familiar tunes (a.k.a. the hits)?
More emphasis on unfamiliar tunes (mainly college staples)?
A pop-sounding mix?
A heavier rock-sounding mix?

I prefer the emphasis on new rock since there's so much Classic rock on the commercial side of Cleveland radio.

Still, wasn't this station supposed to be on the air, already? Going to be interesting launching a new signal in the fall, up against the new fall TV shows and an onslaught of political ads. Not too many people in your potential audience may be paying attention.

Apparently this Archie fellow is a christian rapper who wants to leave Cleveland for NYC. Not sure how this will fit in on a local-focused AAA station....

I think they go more for newer stuff and emphasize the familiar, but throw in some cuts. I'd like to hear them sound like Cities 97 in Minneapolis. Very Modern AC sounding but it does very well in the ratings (especially for a AAA format).

So will 87.7(5) continue to have dead air until they launch the format or they going to put the sports/Michael Stanley loop back on or maybe a different loop?

They're back with that same loop, and have done so since yesterday. I haven't heard anything since last month regarding the station. Hopefully, they're on track for a launch in late August (according to their FB page).

My friend (an old radio pro from out of town) had this to say the other night over drinks:

"So where the hell is this new, hotshot station already with the former WDOK promotion go-fer the AM drive star? I am sure that the owners, GM and Sales Manager will trade the joint out to the max for the next two years for furniture, cars, fancy restaurants etc, then cash out the station for the digital TV channel to Home Shoppers or Trinity for big bucks while thanking their little minimum wage 'radio' staff for a 'job well done' while handing them all pink slips".

This station is doomed from the start. I see the handwriting on the wall. AAA Format= dead in this area. Taking forever to start up, People talking about getting the former V personalities (Yeah they were so great they last a year or so). Face it AAA is a non starter in Cleveland as well as an Alternative format. There is already a good AAA station in Akron 91.3 with good air personalities. Listen to that station

I disagree. AAA can be done in CLE and make $$$. Issue with V was the GM and PD took it away from the original plan at start up. And to be clear Gorman was not the PD. And he was not the consultant the last 14 months it was on the air.

The Summit is decent. However, they did a Barry Manilow promotion recently. Really? Cause Manilow screams AAA core artist?

Gorman saw the handwriting on the wall with V and wanted nothing more to do with it I bet. Rocco the Rock Dog as PD? He did such a bangup job at the End they replaced him there as well.
