87.7 testing

I had this happen with Jim Brickman's "After All These Years" related to an early YT post of the first part of WKYC-TV's 50th anniversary..This was several years ago, and the video is still up, though for some reason blocked in Germany. They gave the option of replacing the song with something else, but it would ruin the pace of the video..

In the last week, though I had two of my videos (Morning Exchange 12-17-97) flagged for violations from "Scripps Local News" First major violations ever, and I've been on YouTube 5 years..

I just took them off YouTube and put them somewhere else (DailyMotion)..Daily Motion is not as large or popular as YouTube but I've been told they don't the copyright issues that YouTube has..

If the powers that be re Youtube gave me a chance for a rebuttal I would add that the integrity if the clip would be severely compromised by editing out the MSB tune, the station ID is on the fade in to the MSB tune, and there may be some kind of "play" between the tunes and the quality of the picture. Something is interfering with the slides, seems the brighter ones, and it's more or less consistent throughout. I would think someone could study the interactions on the video and that's where I believe the fair use and education aspects would come into play, the full unedited clip needs to be there.

One of V's biggest problems was that it very much tried to be "too hip for the room", lavishing attention on obscure artists and trying to break new music. Is that a road Wilson and company can avoid?

The "look at all the cool music we can help you find" format at 107.3 ended up with the station having a core, but small, listener base. Most people just want to hear familiar music, or music that sounds like it.

I think that's the point of AAA, to play music that you can't hear everywhere else. Of course, artists like Coldplay, Adele, and Gotye have gotten pretty popular in the mainstream, but AAA strives to be "too hip for the room". Perhaps they could give it a more Modern AC sound such as Cities 97/ Minneapolis or KFOG/ San Fran to add some cume to their numbers, but getting too mainstream will hurt them too.

When I put the 106.5 The Lake format change up on YouTube, it flagged one song as being blocked - in Germany, of all places. I don't remember which song.

As far as I know, I have no European readers, so I have no idea what they see. Here in the U.S., it didn't affect the video at all.

If you're only putting up sound, try SoundCloud. Free for about 2 hours worth of audio, and haven't run into this same problem there. (I know you put the WLFM-LP video in this one.)

If these clowns think a talk-intensive AAA will fly, they're insane. They will be out of cash in 6 months. AAA listeners want the spotlight to be on the music.

On the other hand, a near-replica of WMMS (which is how I interpreted the described format) isn't a good idea, either. If I wanted a bunch of lame talk and not nearly enough music, I'd already be listening to WMMS! Not to mention, Clevelanders already know where to find WMMS. A massive marketing campaign will be necessary to familiarize listeners with this new station, and in particular, its highly unusual dial position.

A pretty fascinating story here. I've heard very little about these owners/managers but it seems they will have their hands full getting the station heard and then getting it sold. An unknown here is whether they will code for People Meters and then subscribe to Arbitron. If so, a programmer with knowledge and success in a PPM situation will be essential. If they are serious about live talent and adding talk elements, then the leader(s) will need to be strong with talent management and PPM clock strategy. Otherwise, I'm afraid these guys will spend their days herding cats and agonizing over every Arbitron monthly that comes out. Then again, maybe they aready know this and are just out to have some radical radio fun and sell this a qualitative buy while FCC still allows the frequency to exist.

I am currently picking up WLFM in downtown Sandusky on a Grundig S350. Stereo light on but it is a bit scratchy. Still not bad for 3000 watts.

Thanks to crazy atmospheric conditions .. I actually got to listen for a bit last night in my car on I-71 in the Columbus Ohio area... heard the Indians song in stereo.

In my car, you can actually pick 87.7 up in Trumball county around Warren and Niles. In Niles it's a iffy but comes in pretty well around Warren.

I stand corrected, Pat tells me this is a recording of the station made by someone else in
Michigan. He posted it on his site and I wrongly assumed he picked up the station in
San Antonio.

I'd almost bet the farm (no, not 1540 in Niles) that 87.7 won't be on that quick.

Maybe automated music to keep the transmitter warm, but certainly not in their "grand opening" state.

Believe it or not, 87.7's signal holds up even in midst of DX season. Came in stronger in many areas than the college/non-comm and even the commercial stations. Really powerful considering it's only at 3,000 watts.

Having no first adjacents, or first/second adjacent IBOC hash, in the way probably helps them tremendously in fringe areas as well.

I mentioned the other night 87.7 came in on my wife's car radio..This was late at night. I thought it was a dx opening..Just yesterday I heard it again at Canton Centre (Former Mellett Mall)..Wasnt blasting in, but with no adjacents, it was quite listenable..

Monday night as I was driving back home on the Ohio Turnpike, I tuned in and was surprised to hear them as far west as the Toledo airport, albeit with a very scratchy signal there. By the time I reached the Woodville exit (exit 81) the signal was clear - about 80 miles away as the crow flies.

Did Youtube flag your video as "matching third party content" due to the Michael Stanley Band tune? They did mine, as I uploaded a full loop earlier, and it's posted earlier on in this thread. I challenged them calling it Fair Use, and they came back and said no it's not. I was going to take it down, but I didn't. It's still there as far as I know. I have a video up from maybe 2 or so years ago, that also "matched third party content", and I argued that the song is so obscure, my posting it would only help getting the song exposed again, and wouldn't that be good for the artist, not bad? That's still up too.
