87.7

I dislike the new format more every time I listen. Is there anybody out there that has stopped
listening like me?

They call it Smooth AC? Can someone tell me how George Michaels' song Faith is smooth?

This format is pure garbage, either bring back the smooth jazz format or change your format
entirely.

This station is just brutal now, and it's such a shame they worked so hard to put the smooth jazz
station on the air after WNUA changed, and now their worse than Lite. Some of the songs their
playing I've never heard before, nor do I want to hear again. They sound like a generic mix type
you'd hear at the cosmetic counter in a department store.

You threw away your loyal fans, really sad, if you want younger numbers, this is NOT the way
to do it. It probably is a good way to have NO listeners though.

The Smooth Jazz Network has two formats: Smooth Jazz and Smooth AC. The station could easily revert to SJ by calling Alan Kepler and telling him that is what they want to do. The Smooth AC format was devised for PPM markets where the numbers on SJ sank. Let's face it: The PPM system is weighted in such a way-because of the simple fact that some demos can not/will not use the meter-so as to cause ratings to change in ways that no one expected and as such causing unlistenable formats such as Smooth AC to proliferate and prosper.

Your both right, and that is bad, because it's going to destroy radio.

It says that the only radio that will do well is sub par.

When I say bad, I hope you know I don't mean that you or your opinions are bad, that the
system is bad, your right on with what you said.

To all consultants out there: 87.7 is a textbook example of how radio stations lose listeners. They *tinker* with a growing and modestly successful format in order to make it 'more appealing to lower demos' and, in the process, lose what listeners they have without picking up the new ones they wanted. They could just have easily built a larger audience by sticking with what works, but NO - that's not good enough for the suits.

It's called out-thinking yourself and this business is full of people who do that for a living.

Now where are they?

Soon it won't matter anyway, because they'll be going off the air. The FCC has decided that low power TV stations must convert to digital transmission, which is not compatible with the FM sound carrier.

However, it won't matter to me. I've already stopped listening.

I couldn't agree more. What in the world happened? I just bought a new car with Sirius Satellite. While the SJ sound is as bland as one can make it, it's still better than 87.7.

What a disappointment...

The FCC is CONSIDERING the mandatory transition date for analog LPTVers. They haven't made a rulemaking as of yet.

We talked about this when doing an item on a potential "Franken FM" at 87.7 here. Scott Fybush told us that the date is not set in stone, but will probably end up being sometime from 2012 through 2015.

When that happens, yes, WLFM and the other Channel 6-based LPTVers operating as radio stations will go away. Venture Technologies wants to allow analog audio carriers on 87.7 for these stations, but that appears somewhat unlikely from this view.
