87.7's New Program Director Is...

Look closely at the Facebook page. To me most of the postings may come from friends or families of the station big shots. I may be wrong..The morning show is a horrific flop. The music is repetitious to the extreme. V107.3 had more life in its short time on the air. I truly thought something big was going to make this station more than what it is.Has Kim Monroe started as PD? Any noticable revamping of the music? I heard she will be on the air. Is it true?

As I said before, it is run on a shoestring to keep the TV license active in the cheapest way (audio only!) until the digital TV changover in 2015. Then, it is sold to a TV operator as a digital TV station for substantial bucks and that's the end of 87.7 as a "radio station".
In the meantime, there's lots of tradeout commercials for goods to be sent directly to the pockets of the owners (you think they can SELL these ratings?), and employment for one of the owners' girlfriend and daughter.
and yet another AAA station folds in this market. If you want a good AAA station put on 91.3 the Summit.
My question will the new PD allow Archie to stand with the guy who was ordered to wear tyhe idiot sign after threatening the police via 911, like he did with the lady passing the bus?

Nepotism or not, Rachel is qualified to be an afternoon drive host on a radio station, she has both the experience and talent. Archie on the other hand....can't explain that one.
Facebook friends does not make a successful radio station. I can bet some of the so called friends thought 106.5 the leak was a station they thought was "IT" when it debuted..I am not pointing at the air staff. Just the general public in generally speaking. Did Archie get permission from PBS to use Mr Rogers name? Hmmmm. Maybe Mr Green Jeans from Capt. Kangaroo,if he was alive today would permit the use of the name Mr. Black Jeans instead.Kind of a better ring to it.
I do usually listen to 87.7 in my car. I know they're not perfect, and prolly more someone's hobby, someone that can afford it, and we're going to lose the station in 2.5 years. The music does get repetitious. However, the station kind of reminds me in ways of the old pirate stations I listened to as a kid in the 60's, where everything wasn't just 100% "perfect" all the time. Or always the most professional air staff. I think Rachel Steele is a pro. Archie is there for fun. Aren't most morning drive time jocks? They're all there for fun really, and they realize they only have 2.5 years. They are a "rogue" station in ways, the main one being a "barely legal" " Franken FM". But I like that. In a way shows a more human element vs. a mechanically engineered element.
I really think they should also call the station something like "Frankie FM, your alternative outlaw" and play up the novelty, have some fun with it. As far as I'm concerned, it's kind of a "novelty" station, and there is nothing wrong with that, that's a true "alternative", and IMO, welcome on the often overly staunch radio dial.

I usually flip to 87.7 when Alan Cox is at a commercial, and in the past week I've heard "Enter Sandman" by Metallica, "Money Talks" by AC/DC, and "Don't Stop Believin'" by Journey.
I mean, play whatever you want, but it seems The Lake and 'NCX have this territory pretty well covered. If you want to be an alternative, be an alternative, you know? I can't for the life of me figure out what this station is supposed to be.

Just look at Kim Monroe's resume..A strong rock radio background..Alternative is as much rock n roll as is Metallica and AC DC when they were breaking out in their early years. It is refreshing to get a break from Wonderwall a few times an hour. It is what rock radio is about. Blending old and new.Makes sense to me..
