87.9 FM The Wave

by the operator or by FCC?

The site, from a prev thread: http://www.879thewave.webs.com/

Under listen live @2:48 pm they're playing Love Machine (the Jacksons?) at least on the stream but you
mean the FM broadcast is done...
Now "Sad Sweet Dreamer" (Sweet Sensation), on stream

Well seeing that the FCC never shuts down pirates anymore, it would have to be by the operator. If the FCC really did shut them down, than I guess this would prove that they're afraid of going after the pirates in urban areas.

Mazel Tov! Glad to hear it. I hope that the local field office
has the other pirates in their crosshairs... Send 'em all a
message, loud and clear!

Of all the pirates in the area they chose to shut down the Wave? I can think of at least 10 pirates that should have gotten a visit instead of this guy in Boxford.

I realized later that this comment may have come off as me blaming the FCC people, which I'm not. What needs to happen if these stations are going to be shut down, is they need to be given more help by other authorities such as in Florida. Down there, it's actually a crime to operate a pirate station according to state law. Sure, there are still pirates on the air, but at least they have other agencies backing them up.

Just heard "Sad Eyes" and now a song that goes Sha la la live for today (whatever it's called). Nice stream with no Optimud at all messing up the sound. ;D

Headphones on and Elton John's "Daniel" sounds excellent with only a wisp of artifacts. :)

IMHO with G3 and G4 becoming affordable and available FM is out and internet is in. Oh, and I'm in Dover, DE so I don't think I could have picked up 87.9. :D ;)

I emailed the station and was told that for the past couple of days the owner has been getting a ton of calls and emails wondering what happened to the station. Apparently he had a large fan base down on the seacoast where there is no longer a full time oldies station. I like many others are also wondering why out of all the pirates in the area did 87.9 have to be the one that was shut down.

Probably the FCC got a complaint. The FCC's Enforcement Bureau, for better or worse, is mostly a REACTIVE agency instead of a PROACTIVE one. They need to receive a complaint from a party with standing before they'll act.

Being in Boxford, I would guess that there was a complaint from a listener to WBMT (2nd adjacent interference, when WBMT is on the air) or maybe WMBR (1st adjacent). Or possibly WBZ-FM (which would receive 10.6MHz I.F. interference, albeit in a pretty small radius...just takes one offended listener, though!)

I remember there was a pirate on 90.5 in the Dorchester area not far from the Boston Globe. That was a dumb move...I hear there were several complaints from Globe staffers wanting to listen to WBUR, and I'm sure a complaint was filed by WBUR itself, too. Said pirate barely lasted two weeks before a visit. Meanwhile, all the pirates in the expanded AM band (1610-1700 kHz) aren't interfering with anyone in Boston as long as they avoid 1650 too close to Logan...so there's no complaints from anyone with standing, and the pirates continue broadcasting for years.

WCRB has enough trouble reaching some sections of Boston; how about if you lived nr the 99.7 pirate
that was, maybe still is, on air there? (Haitian?)

Yeah, seacoast misses oldies--wonder if they could move to expanded band AM as long as they don't interfere

WBMT a licensed pirate. A group of drunken kids on the air and the shcool doesn't give a damn. WBMT needs a visist from the FCC.

Is it even on the air? I have passed it on the dial numerous times and not found it on the air.

Drunken students? It's a High School station, under the direction of the school district...not a college station. I would find it hard to believe that the booze is running freely there.
