870/1470 Back To Sports?

This afternoon I was in the area and noticed that 870 WLVP and 1470 WLAM were running a local sports show, referring to the station as the "Maine Sports Network." Have they gone 100% sports, or are they just leasing certain times? The website, www.8701470.com doesn't make it clear if their programming is on 24/7 or not. Maybe they're still running true oldies when their shows/high school games aren't on?

The Maine Sports Network is a group of sports guys buying time on 870/1470...they used to be on JJ Jefferies's Big Jab/96.3 with a weekend talk show but have expanded to games and weekday shows now that JJ unceremoniously dumped them 2 months ago..maybe Nassau is thinking about going back to sports...

I think they left 96.3 when they revealed they'd struck a deal to move to 1470 in an effort to focus on more local sports (which isn't the Jab's area of interest). I don't think JJ would have dumped them had they been satisfied with the Jab's status quo.

We weren't exactly dumped, but we didn't leave of 100% free will either. We had a great relationship with ACR until we wanted more. We produced high school sports on our own in 2009 and 2010 and wanted to expand that for regular season football. They were unwilling to sell us airtime on any property. 96.3 made the most sense for us, but we were told 'it doesn't fit our business model.' The 96.3 crowd wasn't interested in high school sports...that is until we left.

We had many discussions and Nassau's AM870/1470 fit the bill.

We are in active pursuit to find local investors who believes in our approach to local sports radio. That, or just continue to grow our model to allow us to lease more time. WCSH 6's Lee Goldberg does a show with us, and is a huge help to further our cause. Check out all our info at MaineSportsNetwork.com
