870/1470 The Oldies Channel is on

So far, all the songs I've heard (about 50 songs so far) are from 1960-72, excepting Blueberry Hill (1956). A bit different than their "50's & 60's" moniker. A 50's song probably comes by once per hour. - However, it's all hits, relatively fast-paced, and is probably a winner ratings-wise (compared to previous format). It's also different that 1470's previous music format which actually was 1957 thru 1969 or so without the rock that is included in the present format. - The actual niches that 870/1470 is filling is 1960-64, that era which WYNZ is not covering. Rock & R&B songs heard on 870/1470 are Uptight (Identified as Stevie Wonder's first hit record? THINK I heard 'em say that), Magic Carpet Ride, Summer In The City.

I'm hearing a lot of 50's and early-mid 60's stuff... Yakety-Yak, Little Susie, Windy, Kansas City...

Have heard some early seventies stuff too... station sounds great! It'a my new AM music go-to, leapfrogging The Bay and WJTO.

Yes, I'm hearing a bit more 50's now. Like the music mix. They're making it rather up-tempo, with a de-emphasis on ballads. And so far, have heard no Tony Bennett nor Frank Sinatra, but I'm sure they're in there somewhere, as I did hear Percy Faith Orchestra's "Theme From A Summer Place"! Stuck out like a sore thumb, but what the hey? The format should do very well, ratings-wise in Lewiston. In the interest in good musical variety, I hope it stays. That poor 1470 station has had more formats in the past 20 years....
