88.3 WQIQ Spotsylvania testing

Heard it the first time Friday, doing testing early Saturday AM with intermittent switching between WVTF and Radio IQ. At this moment, signal is iffy in most of Fredericksburg. No HD, no RDS...though no issue with WAMU interference now

WRVL tends to blend in on 88.3 for me at around 35 miles West of the 'Burg.

I'll have to swing the Yagi around and see if I can pick them out.

nocom:

Don't know if you've checked out the coverage maps, but there are two HUGE nulls to the NW to protect their 88.5/C'ville and 88.7 in Warrenton. Also another to the S to protect WRIH in Richmond, and a little null to the N to protect WAMU.

I'm almost convinced they are not anywhere near full-power yet. I'm 12.5 miles from the tower site and can pick up WAMU (at 50 miles) better than the 88.3 signal

Sounds like you have a good setup for FM though so you may get lucky.

And in case people care, there is currently little to no signal in Downtown Fredericksburg from the station. Station is in mono, but it has gotten blasted around town at night by 88.3/Ocean City and IBOC from WAMU.

Didn't actually look at the maps, but no surprise there, considering all the other stations in that vicinity on the dial.

Add in a little tropo and it could get real interesting. I didn't get a chance this evening, but Sunday/Monday I'll see what I can get.

Well, something doesn't make sense.

This morning around 12:30AM I was able to listen to WQIQ very clearly and I am smack dab in the middle of the null heading toward Warrenton. Not only that, but the RDS was on but only read: WQIQ and NEWS. Nothing more. This was on my barefoot Grundig G3 at that. I am at least 35-40 miles by air from the transmitter location which is near Post Oak off of 208.

Tonight I will have more time and try a couple of different radio/antenna combinations to see what I find.
