88.5 just played "Escape"

I love 88.5. Listen to it going to and from work each day. They play songs I have not heard since the 60's. I wish 88.7 did not splatter on it in Donelson, but even with the interference, I still listen.

Look for them to be a close #2 next ratings period-

As a Vol State CC and WVCP alum, that would be pretty nice with the new PPM system here and all, but look...WPLN probably won't hit over a 1 or 2 share, so why would a college station get on the board here or even have a peek at hanging with "40 year women's 92.9"? I mean look at Chicago...there's only 3 or 4 non-comms on the board and barely hanging there with the exception of Chicago Public Radio, or WBEZ to be more formal with a 2.3 share.

Back when Way went on in 1992, we offered WVCP low pass filters that could have given both stations more 'cross coverage' by about 5 to 7 miles.. Don't know why they passed on the freebees we would have bought them (and we would have them on our transmission, too)....

So that makes a total of two stations in the world that play the song!
When it first came out 31 years ago, I thought Billy Joel sang it.

If you count 96.3 Jack FM playing "Escape" as their first song May 2005, that makes three. Although I have not heard a Rupert Holmes tune on 96.3 since (fast talking tag: anecdotal and personal experience conditions, could be and probably am incorrect, your results may vary).

Rupert's jingle writing was boosted in the earlier days when he penned "Timothy" by The Bouys... Trapped in a mine and no food to eat, the only ones there to tell were Joe, Me and Tim... They ate Tim... Oh, Timothy was a cat, according to his storyline... Ha! What a funny guy!

That's insulting to this group, RR. :-X Hell, I heard it while driving through Chattanooga about 2 pm on a Monday on Sunny 92 a few weeks ago. It was perfectly placed between U-2 "With or Without You" and something else. Sunny seems to be rocking a bit more, so Escape was a bit out of place. Not all songs can peak an hour like that song. I nearly pulled over on I-75 and saluted Lookout Mountain. Chattanooga knows how to party.

I can give you numerous examples of stations that play Escape. It's even in a currently released popular movie. So there. Old is today's new.

Didn't mean to insult anyone! I'm sure most cities and towns have an AC station that has their own songs they play over and over ...and I know "Escape" is probably one of them on many stations.

I think the reason I mentioned that was it was the first time I remember 88.5 playing it (been listening 1 1/2 years. Since my original post: ditto for 101.7. (The song is poised to pass "Happy Birthday to You", "Auld Lang Syne" AND "Innagaddavida" (Hey!) for the most played song in the history of the English language!)

It would seem that even in Nashville people are in need of a nice, tall, frozen pina colada.

I confess.... When I was a PD/MD for a 50kw college station, I had a Rupert Holmes Weekend Escape! We gave away 50 copies of his LP... We were hip and wore those thin ties with our big hair and thought He was the GEEK BOMB! So, playin' him and Stephen Bishop really scored well with our females.. "Hey babe! I'll get some free Rupert if you go with me to Pizza Hut for some fun!" Oh the late 70's! :p
