88.5 pirate station or what?

Was driving by Jensen and Crosstimbers and saw a sign by a spanish church named VISION GLOBAL. And said ( of course in spanish) DO YOU WANT FREE GAS? WELL LISTEN HERE ON 88.5 FM. I did some searching online and found this. www.iglesiavisionglobal.com
I found a link where I could listen to it online and so far I heard two no Christian songs, one from Alejandro Fernandez and one from Conjunto Primavera. Any information about this topic? Is this a legal station? What are the call letters for this station? And if its a Church station why arent they playing church music?

I guess you haven't packed?

Yes, it is a pirate. I assume the station doesn't go out far? IBOC from 88.7 will Kill IT immidiately. Idiots, don't they know any better? If you are going to do something, do it right. Use 87.9 or another open frequency. Idiots. I am going to report it to the FCC. So, do you know where the transmitter is exactly located? I may need a name to report along with the complain to the FCC.

Though, I am tempted to call in to see about this free gas. Maybe follow along about how God is going to save me if I donate (of course, that is all they want), and then take that free gas and run ;D.

Unless it's a Part 15. The radio page on their website doesn't mention anything about 88.5. The original poster didn't mention if he had actually listened to the OTA signal, or how far it went.

There are many churches that use flea-powered transmitters on the FM band, although I agree 88.5 is a poor choice in this market.

No im not packing and never said I was. This church is located on Jensen and Crosstimbers, well the website showed the map. I looked around the building and didnt even see an Antenna. I could hear this station for two or three blockes only.

Given that range, it is almost certainly a Part 15. Even a minimal pirate would go out farther than that.
I'm no engineer, but I'll bet it isn't a part 15. If it was a part 15, it would be squashed by the IBOC on KUHF. From DXing's experience, I have been able to hear the hash of KSBJ blead over to KEOS just outside of College Station on some strong tropo conditions. If KEOS can get squashed by KSBJ's hash so far away, I find it hard to believe a Part 15 can go out 3 block (hell, even leave the studios)

It may quite possibly be a Part 15, but I find it hard to believe it since it is broadcasting right below KUHF with IBOC. I just find it hard. I'll guess I'll ask when I go get my free gas! ;D Idiots, anything to get people to come to their church.

Could be one of those older ipod transmitter those thing were able to transmit 4 to 5 blocks easy

Bingo! I got one for my ipod before I have a new car that had an audio input intended for the ipod. Its one of those C Crane jobs that does a fair job and the frequency is selectable which is nice.

I'm far from an expert, but I do know KSBJ has a tower/attenna around the BCS area.

Chuck Tiller, Whats up man? Dade. I drove by where you guys said there was a this station on 88.5.
Yes that falls under part 15. I could not hear it for a block. Mabey they are giving free gas if someone will come to there church and bring 5 more new people to put money in the colection basket.
Later all and have a good one. Buzz me sometime.
