88.7 interference

I received a call from my son-in-law in Hammondsport that 88.7 in Hornell is being covered up by a religious station broadcasting Gregorian Chants. Does anyone have any info on this? I understand that 88.7 is a translator for WSKG in Binghamton.

One of our former major stations here in Pittsburgh was sold to a Catholic group and they too are sending out chants.

Any help will be appreciated.

Sounds like WTMI in Auburn is on the air. This was a new construction permit that was originally granted to the Tyburn Academy up there, and then was transferred to Holy Family Communications out of Buffalo (WLOF 101.7) to construct.

Unfortunately for your son-in-law, it's a legal station...and Hammondsport is outside the protected contour of WSQA from Hornell, so there may not be much he can do about losing that reception. Can he hear 90.9 from Ithaca there? That may be the best bet.

Here in Geneva, the new signal has ruined my reception of WRUR on 88.5. It even makes it hard to pull in WCIY (Family Life) from Canandaigua.

WRUR is supposed to be upgrading their signal in the near future, so, hopefully, I'll be able to hear them clearly over-the-air again.
