89.1 Possable Rap Hiphop Pirate

Last night about 10:45 I was driving in the area of OST & MLK I heard a station on 89.1 playin rap hiphop came in with static but still listenable. The auido sounded way to bassy after every track theere was 4 to 6 seconds of dead air between the next track might have been a ipod hooked up to a transmitter with some decent power. I listen to this station for 45 min never heard a dj on the mic or a station ID I could not even find any thing listen on radio-locator site about this station so is 89.1 a new rap hiphop pirate.

Well.. I *think* I udnerstand what you're trying to say.... if you can't find it on radio-locator.com and the station is playing hip hop, it's most likely a pirate..DUH.

Can anybody confirm if 89.1 is a rap hiphop pirate or not?

It is most likely a pirate...... if you didn't find it anywher ein the database, it's gotta be.

Can anybody from the houston area confirm?

It could have been someone's satellite or iPod since he was driving at the time. Were you behind/in front of the same car when you were hearing this, DJboutit3? If so, that's a more likely culprit.

Re: 89.1 Possible Rap Hiphop Pirate

The nearest 89.1 is in College Station and thats 85 miles away. It's listed as "Variety" and is a community station, I doubt theyd be playing Rap/hip hop. The other 89.1's within 200 miles of Houston are religious. There's an 89.3 about 35 miles away and it's a Class C1 100KW non COmmercial religious station.

So, none of the 89.1's nearby would be playing rap/hip hop and with a Class C1 on 89.3 35 miles away there is no way a licensed 89.1 would fit into Houston.

VERDICT?

IT'S A PIRATE!!

P.S. It's spelled "Possible"

I could pick up this station for about 1 1/2 to 2 miles around Macgregor Park no way it was a little ipod transmitter in somones car since I listed for about 45 min.

See my above comments.....

I think I can help > I was in the area hood myself . I heard Lil Kim, Lil Mo, Lil Jean ,and Rich Little . Then there was Ice cube ,Ice Tea, Ice water listeniin on my radio. I looked around as the sound was getting stronger, and lo and behold ,damn there was an antenna with a jolly roger hanging from it, so i stopped off at the stop and go and got me a bag of Jolly Ranchers. it was a good chillin time for all.

If 89.1 had been playing country, the responses to this guy's original question would probably have not been so sarcastic.....

the odds on that? hint: Don't go to Vegas or Shreveport anytime soon.

How many country pirates have you ever heard of? Part 15s, maybe, but it's never been a popular format with those who really want to flout the law. Someone should start one in midtown Manhattan to capture all those country listeners that people insist are there.

99.99% of all serious pirates out there air either rap, 'patriot' talk, or non-English programming. That's just the way it goes.
