I was listening to them in St. Pete. last night on the way to the Doobie Bros. at RibFest at Vinoy Park.

Signal is not that bad. No interference from 88.9, either.

What is 105.5 HD-2. Somebody here once said that WDUV would be an HD-2 in any other market.
 
105.5-2 is their HD-2 channel. A seperate program from WDUV. The HD-2 is commercial free Oldies. I listen to it or 102.5 HD-2 which is commercial free rock from the 60-70's. HD is also free, no subscription fee like satellite.

If 105.5 HD2 is commercial free, I would not expect that WDUV WOULD want to promote it. Their money is made by keeping ears on the 105.5's main channel, where the commercials bring in the bucks.

HD radio seems to be a lot like FM in the 1960's, when programmers didn't know what to do with it except simulcast the AM in glorious stereo fidelity. With HD also being FM, and with HD radios being uncommon among the populace, there's a problem of what to do with it.

And don't forget that ID includes the Johnny Mann Singers doing "TAMPA BAY". When you are playing Wilson Pickett and Creedence, those current liners they use are like a parallel universe. They could add more jocks and 20/20 news. When they play the Spinners, the Four Tops,and Stevie Wonder back to back, I at least expect Frankie Crocker or Tom Shannon or something.

In this era of DragonSpeak, I'm surprised we aren't hearing computer generated Frankie Crocker, Chuck Leonard, or Ron Lundy. I'm sure there are enough airchecks to put them on VT's.

Just as Stephen Hawking's voice did weather for NOAA, I'm sure it will eventually be widespread.

Anyone know whether 'SMR will be running HD?
Perhaps with 'USF on their HD2, the opposite of what 'USF is doing.

This is a non-comm. There is no rush since there is no loss of revenue. The anxiety level is there, but that is normal.

It will be completed when it is completed.

It was coming in around Busch Gardens at 4:30PM. Change we can believe in
 
As per a previous post, as of now, the ERP for WSMR has been downgraded from 55,000 watts to 54,000 watts while at the same time a slight increase (very slight) antenna height increase as per the modified CP that took effect 13 Dec.

As far as the translator on 103.9, the CP to move that (as well as increase the power from 99 watts to 250 watts as well as increase antenna height) was granted on the 7th of December. The FCC 60 dbu contour map shows that coverage being basically north of I-4 to the south, Dale Mabry to the west, U.S. 301 on the east and north the just north of the Hillsborough Pasco county line (somewhere around SR 56 ;not quite to Wesl ey Chapel).

I expect WSMR to be 54,000 watts to be on or before the 11th of January, probably sooner, but remember this is a major undertaking and I would expect that as well as WUSF engineers, the Coast Guard as well as Clear Channel could be involved making sure that they don't have any interference to their antennas on that tower and we have had some days lately with high wind advisories that make the work at the height treacherous. (sp?) and more time consuming.

WSMR seems to be at full power now, or at least an increase............. nothing being mentioned on the air or their website; but I'm picking them up on a clock/weather radio this morning, that was completely silent on 89.1 previously, now I'm getting a weak signal. On my two good radios the reception is adequate; about what I was expecting.

Don't know if this is the final outcome or testing.

If they're done with 89.1, then I suspect the next project is to get 103.9 on the air.
