89.15/Issaquah

Why is this Issaquah religious translator (carryng "CRN"- the Community Radio Network- pretty cheeky IMHO) allowed to operate off frequency?

I have a tuner that operates in very fine steps- like 89.10; 89.15; 89.20; 89.25- and this translator only locks up properly when the tuner is set to 89.15. On any other radio set to 89.1, it sounds distorted with clipping.

Does the FCC not proof these things or is this a bootleg translator operating sans license?

Licensed to Edgewater of Atlanta GA. One of the bible thumper groups that applied for over 5000 translators in the last window. they are building them out now with hired two way radio technicians doing the installs. This particular translator feeds their 104.9 translator in Brennen (!) They have already had issues keeping their equipment operating in shall we say a correct and legal manner.

If you have any problems at all with this or any other translator and especially if it interferes with an actual licensed full power station you wish to hear, you should immediately send a letter of complaint to the station you are trying to hear and to the local FCC field officer.

A translator can be forced to shut off if it is shown to cause interference to a licensed station, in or out of the licesed stations contour. the translator is allowed to try to engineer out the interference but if they can not, it is GONE.

Off frequency FM stations like this are rare in North America (not counting the audio portion of TV channel 6, you can hear on 87.75 FM.) But they're everywhere in Asia and parts of Europe. If it's off channel or an even point number (.2, .4, .6, etc.) it's a safe bet it's either a novice pirate or an overzealous religious broadcaster.....

This garbage-sounding translator is on Tiger Mtn on channel 206 and services Issaquah, or at least that's their COL. It would be much better if they came down off the hill and had a killer signal in downtown Issaquah. I think they have not been tending to this satallator. So, in other words, it's a waste of spectrum. Click here: http://www.fcc.gov/fcc-bin/fmq?list=0&facid=91156
