89.7 in Philly

Last evening I was in center city and doing some dial twisting....actually these days I guess it's really button pushing. I was in the Rittenhouse Square area and picked up a station on 89.7 playing oldies. It had a fairly respectable signal. Carried it all the way up 18th Street and down JFK Blvd, and then it faded when I hit the Schuykill.

Any ideas? Glassboro? Pirate? Audio was fairly loud but extremely muddy. New heard it before.

You were probably picking up someone's SiriusXM satellite radio with wireless FM modulation.

Someone in a car that was near his, you mean? Because nobody's home FM transmitter, stationary in a home, is going to reach from Rittenhouse Square to 18th and JFK.

I thought about a Satellite FM modulator but ruled it out because the signal was too consistent and strong throughout my travel...unless of course, the guy was on my tail until I got to the Schuykill Expwy.

WDVR is probably the most plausible licensed station, with a little help from ducting.

It was Rowan's Radio station! It's a very good oldies stations might I add. I was listening to it today in Delaware. Great signal and great music.

WDVR's signal gets beaten out by WGLS pretty much after you cross from Bucks into Montgomery county. WDVR comes in clear through most of Bucks - good variety of especially traditional & alt-country & bluegrass, plus oldies, standards, etc.

Most likely WGLS-FM from Rowan University in Glassboro (with the tower technically in Harrison Twp). 6 to 9 pm weeknights is urban/oldies.

WDVR good station. Don't get it mixed up with 89.3 WRDV in Hatboro /Warminster. WRDV originally wanted the calls WDVR for Del Val Radio but had to settle for Radio Del. Vally because the calls were taken. I work in Bucks. Co. and it really getd a good signal here near Peace Valley Park.
