Tennessee Temple University has plans on selling 89.7 WDYN in Chattnooga. No word on potential buyers but a killer 100kw signal for the greater Chattanooga should bring in some cash to the college. Considering that WMBW exists there is no reason that WDYN should continue with its format. I hope the owners of J 103 find a way to get this signal. This ought to be interesting to watch.

Word on the street is that the buyer is BBN and the price is between 2 and 4 million.

Nowadays the value of a station without any revenue is mostly determined by how much a buyer pays per person inside the 60 dBu contour of the station. In WDYN's case, this is 850,000 people. $3 per person is a pretty "full" price to be paid in this economy.

Who is BBN?

Bible Broadcasting Network, a 100% listener supported broadcast ministry, based in Charlotte, North Carolina www.bbnradio.org They own countless stations and translators around the U. S. and South America. BBN is much like Chicago based Moody Bible Institute/Moody Broadcasting Network.

...which I believe also airs on 95.3 WYFC Clinton. Sounds to me like religious programming for 65+

Yes, BBN is on 95.3 Clinton with an attempt to cover Knoxville. I'm not sure how well they reach Knoxville, but Knoxville was the objective when BBN acquired WYFC. And, yes, the music consist of traditional hymms which does appeal more to the over 65 demo. However, considering BBN is totally listener supported, it is the over 65 demo that regularly sends donations to BBN in support of the ministry. So, BBN's marketing strategy is on target with regards to meeting BBN's overall objectives.

BBN could probably do much better with a CCM format attracting a more traditional 18 - 49 and 25 - 54 demo, but BBN founder Dr. Lowell Davey doesn't want this demo. Hence the traditional hymms and Bible teaching programs on BBN.

I think what Mark does not realize is that the format works. BBN operates over 200 stations in both Americas so I think that has something to say about the format. Mostly people in the age bracket he mentions only "nickel and dime" support a station but older people will get behind a bible teaching format. BBN is not only listener supported but it pays cash for all of it's acquisitions and has not been affected financially like other CCM stations.

Actually I do understand how the format works, plus I have a direct insight and knowledge of the Bible Broadcasting Network. In the above post I acknowledged that BBN is on target with regards to the target demo BBN is interested in reaching and BBN does very well with its strategy. I'm well familiar with the BBN history, having started with WYFI 99.7 Norfolk, Virgina in 1971, and the rest, as they say, is history.
