9 AM Newscast Coming To WGCL/46

So does that mean The People's Court will be on at noon? Let's hope not.

Quoted from the article:

"WGCL will air Meredith's syndicated show Better at noon in the fall, instead of its current 12:30 slot. "

Now that's better. (just kidding)

Never heard of Better, but I doubt it's any better. Maybe The People's Court wasn't such a bad idea after all.

That leaves an extra timeslot from 1:00pm-1:30pm before "Bold and Beautiful." Fox 5 already has that 9am slot with Good Day Xtra.

You're obviously not very fluent with Merideth-run TV stations. There is a national "Better" show carried across most of its stations, plus a local "Better" show in some markets.

We have a similar situation on WRAL; it has an hour-long noon newscast, fills the 1-1:30 slot with "The Insider," and airs "Y&R" at 4. In Kentucky, WKYT and WLKY also have syndicated shows at 1; "Y&R" airs at 4 on WLKY, and on a day-behind at 9 AM on WKYT. WGCL should be able to come up with a half-hour syndicated show to fill that 1-1:30 gap, depending on what the others plan to add or give up. (Shame they don't have "Jeopardy!"; WFMY and Birmingham's WIAT double-strip that every day, with a new episode and one from last year. That would solve the 1 PM problem. Better still, under the circumstances, why doesn't WXIA go to an hour at noon, give up "Who Wants To Be A Millionaire," and hand that off to WGCL?)

I wondered which station would be the first to drop their noon newscast. It's happened in other markets and with WXIA and WGCL drawing consistently low ratings at noon, I figured it was bound to happen. As for bpatrick's idea, I think it's far more likely that WXIA will evetually drop its noon news (maybe when Jill leaves) rather than expand to one hour.

I'm not sure what will happen with the rest of WGCL's schedule. If they keep B&B, The Talk, and Y&R at the same times, then I wouldn't be surprised if they air paid programming at 1pm. They've already started doing that on occasion at 7pm. I know stations in other markets have aired paid programming during their daytime schedule too.

1-1:30 will be a repeat of the previous day's Inside Edition.

Ch.46 has the bottom of the barrell news anyway and has no viewers and what's up with the stupid weather promo with some new weather gal.? I just happen to see it the other day by accident. Is she sexy or something?? Ch. 46 you are the worst!

Uh, her name is Markina Brown. Unlike empty-headed Dagmar, whom couldn't even read a weather map, Mrs. Brown is a certified by both the AMS and NWS meteorologist. It would be wise for WGCL to promote their certified evening weather anchor and the market's only black female on-air meteorologist. Especially, considering the Atlanta market has a substantially large black population.
