9 kHz AM Frequency of the Week - 594 kHz

What do you hear on 594 kHz?

For me it's just weak upper off-frequency reception of CJCL 590/Toronto and at night pretty much nothing discernible.

From Perth Australia, 3WV ABC Local Radio in Horsham, Victoria (NW of Melbourne, about 1,800 miles east of me) is all I've heard on this frequency. My local ABC Newsradio on 585 is very "sloppy". There are some interesting things on this frequency in this part of the world (Burma, China, Saudi Arabia, Turkey, Vietnam, etc), but I need 585 to do some maintenance on their transmitter :)

Here in Bellevue, WA, at times JOAK Tokyo (NHK-1) comes in with weak-fair Japanese talk around sunrise. The distance is a record 4,780 miles from me, tied with JOAB-693 (NHK-2).

I'm slightly jealous of all you who are American and still can find things on the 9 kHz frequencies. Is there any hope for a guy like me on the Gulf of Mexico to hear anything on 594? I think I'm surrounded by 10 kHz countries.

Dude, I am near Miami and *I* can't get anything like that anymore. I have never heard Euro broadcast LW either, but likely that's due to not having a good antenna.

I heard something on 1593 back in the late 90s, which had to be the former German station, since gone.

Was in Newfoundland in August 1999 & bagged a couple of UK's though. Would have loved to spend more time there.

From several miles east of San Diego, CA (within 1/4 mi of 32°45'40"N 116°56'50"W)....

Normally I hear a mixture of IBOC hash and sideband splash from 600 KOGO, about 7.7 miles west of me.

BUUUUUUUUT..... one early morning a couple years ago, this punched through, albeit faintly, on my Tecsun PL-380, coupled to a Select-A-Tenna. (skip ahead to about 1:15 to get past some of the IBOC hash)
