9 kHz AM Frequency of the Week - 855 kHz

Does splatter from 860 XEMO count? ;) (~ 1.5 mi S of El Cajon, CA, USA)

Sure :) It's interesting to hear what different people would hear if they tuned to 855 kHz. For me, it would be splatter from WKNR 850 during the day and mixed splatter from stations on 850 and 860 at night. WKNR doesn't use IBOC, btw.

From Perth Australia, many evenings I've heard talk in an unidentified language, maybe Bahasa from Radio Republik Indonesia (RRI Mataram). Haven't heard an ID though it seems to be in the right direction (due North). There is a multi-language community station in Melbourne but that would be SE of here. Have not heard anything else on this frequency - no stations on this side of Australia, have never heard the 2 Queensland stations over here.

Nuthin' but the scratchy-sounding outer edge* of KPAM's (860) signal.

* You know, the spot on the dial where the station is obviously not tuned on-centre, but not really on the sideband, either.

With careful phasing of my local on 850, I was able to pull in audio from Spain once for a few minutes when TA conditions were good. Usually though it's just splatter from WGVS.

In northern VA, I get nothing day and night but I plan to keep listening to it as I have recently heard very weak tones on some other 9 kHz frequencies when I have the receiver in the CW mode.

Those Spaniards, lol! Ever try DXing Europe, from any of the Global Tuner nodes over there? Aye curumba, they're everywhere!

A pal of mine had a Dodge Caravan, and I used it one night to drive around. He claimed its AM didn't 'work right', and that he never listened to AM anyway.

The AM worked perfectly -- if you lived in Europe. It tuned every 9 kHz. One early evening, I was getting Romania on 855 on the van's radio.

This was several years ago, in NE PA. I later heard the station on my own analog car radio.

Anybody know how to reset the tuning to 9 KHz on a Forrester's radio?
