9 kHz Frequency of the Week - 531 kHz

When TAs are coming in during the winter, Algeria is often heard. They put out a huge signal on 531. I've also had Spain a few times on 531. On one rare occasion I caught the Faroe Islands a few years ago using the DX-440 w/ the Quantum Loop, but lately it's been Algeria with pop music.

Most nights I get at least a het on 530, which is dominated by Cuba.

Here in Texas there's nothing but Cuba at night, and for me there's not much of a chance to receive any TA signals. But speaking of het-type stuff (just a touch off the subject frequency) is the beacon on 529 in Tennessee still on? Haven't heard it recently.

In Perth, Australia, it's ABC Local Radio Midwest & Wheatbelt from Dalwallinu WA! Another one of the 10 kw regional ABC's around here. There are several strong mideasterners here, and a big Indian, but get only mush below ABC here.

Here in VA, it's nothing in days. Evenings and nights it's the Cuban 530. When I tune to 531 and switch to the CW mode, I get a weak het tone.

Nothing but WPHG710 (actually 530.) I'm now living several miles north of where I was before, yet I can still hear it day and night. For a TIS, they're sure throwing out one hell of a signal.
