90.1 FM

According to the FCC, 90.1 FM changed its calls from WJVC to WORI on March 1st. I suspected maybe an ownership change, but Air1.com still lists WORI as an affiliate. A similar situation also happened at another Air1 affiliate in southern Indiana. That being said, why bother changing the call letters?

Also, 90.1 has a CP to move the transmitter closer to the west side suburbs. Anybody know when this move will take place, or if it already has (and if it has, how much signal has improved across the metro)?

I believe Educational Media Foundation is trying to put some TLC into its Air1 stations with the call letter changes; most of the old call letters date from previous ownership, or from when the stations were leased by EMF. Hopefully, the localization upgrades talked about for several years aren't too far down the road.

I know when WSOH (now WARA) moved recently, it was because their lease for the tower site was not going to be renewed; I'm not sure if the same happened with WJYC/WORI, but it's always a possibility.<P ID="signature">______________

The call letters were changed from WJYC to WORI because the WJYC calls were from the previous owner. The new WORI call letters stand for air1. EMF changes many of its calls to stand for either air1 or K-Love. The r stands for air and the I for the number one. Air1 will have either an AR or AI or RI for many of stations. I imagine the O stands for Ohio.

As far as 90.1 changing transmitter sites - 90.1 will be moving to the tower their sister network station is on -- WNLT 104.3. So they worked out a lease agreement to have both of their stations in Cincinnati on the same tower. It is a benefit being a little closer to cincinnati. I doubt if anyone else saw this but WNLT 104.3 applied to lower their position on the tower by 4 meters to make room for 90.1. They are awaiting approval from the fcc. Maybe when it is approved the CP for 90.1 will built shortly after.

Crap. I hope if they move closer to Cincinnati they don't mess up my reception of WLHS-the only decent radio left in town.

I think you'll probably be okay... the improvement is very slight:

Old (current) pattern

New (CP) pattern

Just a slight nudge east and south.
