90.1 in Austin...

Anyone have any info on this station? No one seems to have any online. They are broadcasting the "Genesis Communications Network" which makes Air America sound like normal, conservative talk. Any thoughts???

This appears to be a pirate located on the east side of north MoPac between 38th and 45th street. The guy even has a SIGN on the fence facing MoPac advertising his signal.

The FCC won't need a detector on THIS one.

Oh, and I wouldn't put it in the "liberal" category. This stuff is more like Alex Jones and those.......folks.

Yea, it was pretty much an open frequency until this guy squatted on it. Kind of annoys me, I was using 90.1 for my own, legal, Part 15 xmtr.

Anyone interested in his programing can visit: http://www.gcnlive.com/ . It starts with Ron Paul and descends in to loony-land from there.

It took the FCC over a year to get rid of the 101.3 FM in Gonzales that was broadcasting the same programming. And it killed KROX. But not long after they approved K269FD and now that kills them as you get into Luling and Q101.9 goes out also.

Re: 90.1 in Austin...HE'S GONE

Update time.....as of this morning, Monday, August 17, 90.1 is off the air. Sounds like we've lost another pirate.

Re: 90.1 in Austin...HE'S GONE

Took them this long to catch it?

Not at 11:34 P.M. on Saturday night.....it's nice and dead. Perhaps you were hearing one of the many part 15-ers who occupied that before they were illegally blown away.

something is back... i'm in south austin just south of 290/71. whatever it is, it's weaker than it used to be but it's political talk so i bet its more of the same. it's fading in and out and is 1-3 bars on my sony XDR-F1HD. these guys have been off and on (mostly on) since I moved to Austin in may 2006. they were caught once in Q1 2007 (http://diymedia.net/fccwatch/eadtable07.htm) but my guess is they simply setup shop at a new locale.

It's interesting how this operation started off as a pirate, a non-comformist sticking it to the man and his commercial talk radio. Now it's loaded down with commercials and even informercials disguised as talk shows. I'll bet their programming decisions are made based on what gets the 800 numbers to ring or what gets the most clicks for them on the web. Now they're just another flavor of commercial talk radio.

Hey FCC Field Office in Houston!

You read these boards, right?

Then why do you allow an unlicensed station at 90.1 in Austin to hog the airwaves? This has been going on for years.

You have no problem sweeping down on some little licensed 500 watt AM station to see if their pointless Public File is in order, and then fine the licensed station $ 10,000 if they accidentally leave out one little item in the file -- but you do NOTHING about the interferring pirates at 90.1, 95.9 and 96.3 in Austin that have been broadcasting for years.

Why?
