Austin Chronicle reports 90.1 pirate is back on the air after FCC shut down its transmitter at former Sheriff Raymond Frank's home on Mt. Larson. They say it's about freedom of speech. But they run commercials, too.
Yea, they came back on within a week or so of the shutdown. I understand they're on the south side, as the signal tends to fade the further from the river that you go north.
If that was the infowar channel still? I found it when I was on the south side a while back. They were even asking people for space to have their towers on in their yard.
One part of me says "do it" if it doesn't interfere with existing stations. I'm all for alternative voices getting their chance. But when they started loading up on commercials I could tell it was all about getting the phone calls and clicks for their advertisers. So I'm a big "NO" on this one.
No, it carried a spot load in its previous incarnation over at Raymond Frank's villa. Don't think for a moment that this is some under-served voice crying in the wilderness. This bunch is out for a buck, plain and simple.
