90.3 FM

I read that WKRB has just moved from 90.9 down to 90.3 FM. While I'm happy to see this station has been given a new lease on life, this brings about a couple questions in my mind.

1). What about WHCR? Are they still on the air?

2). With both WHCR and WKRB now on the same frequency, is there now a clash between the stations in parts of the city?

At one point, WKRB had wanted to move to 91.9. Personally, I think this would have been a much better choice of frequency for them, the closest station on that channel being WSHR. Too bad the FCC didn't see it that way. Or, it could be that Infinity felt that would be a little too close to 92.3.

Even as crowded as the NYC FM band may be, I can't beleive that there is absolutely no other channel for WKRB to operate on. And it is too bad that two college/community radio stations now have to share the same frequency, thus making listening to either one of them very difficult if one isn't within close range of the transmitter. But that's radio in 2006.

WHPC from Nassau Community College in Garden City also broadcasts on 90.3 FM. In any event WCHR and WKRB at 90.3 at 10 watts have a very short range. Perhaps they get more listeners on the Internet.
