90.7 KVIT

Dialed into the broadcast of the dedication of the station. Regrettably, somebody didn't check input levels because the audio was grossly distorted, especially when Mr. Grosz spoke. Wish I could have understood what was going on!

Sounds like a lesson is to be learned in setting levels for a live broadcast or remote ;)

Nonetheless, congrats to Steve for being the very definition of committed to a goal! To all who get to have the privilege of participating in KVIT's program, cherish this time...This is a resource that few schools or communities have, so make the most of it!

I've got a car radio button set, so I'll be listening from time to time...All the best!

I just learned about this through random internet clicking, and to see Steve's name at the top of it... Well, I won't say it was a surprise, exactly, but it's pretty dang awesome! Very late congrats, Steve. It's the dream we tried to achieve at Mesa VoTech, but didn't get the chance to see come to fruition.

I just added your feed to my FStream app on my iPhone...sounding good so far.

I see that you have a request line...but do you have an email address for requests, or an SMS number? If your demographic is 12-21, you might look into using SMS and/or email for requests.

Yes, the request line is 480-461-4049, and we aim 12-24 but our day time is very 18-34 friendly, you could hear AC DC TNT and 1o minutes later hear The black Eyed Peas, afternoons and evenings turns more 95-2011 with 75% hip hop/pop and 25% Rock.

You can email us at [email protected] and we are looking into text options. We are a baby growing, but we expect to make an impact in the southeast valley. W e are joining in with Arbitron PPM just to see how we do, and we have already started looking into signal enhancements to better cover West mesa and Tempe. We are committed to bringing a quality station that will make the industry take notice of our talents and skills.

Nice thing is, we don't have to worry about ratings and making money as the commercial music stations do, as long as we have students, we have a funded radio station, and we expect enrollment at our school to increase. very few High School Based radio stations can reach 700,000 plus people with a good signal.

Thanks for adding us, you won't need an ipod any more. LOL

Just that I'd share, our website is up www.907goldmine.com, check it out, it has a player so you no longer have to download anything or cut and paste a url!!! We also have a facebook..please like us 90.7 The Goldmine..Things are going great..the phones r ringing!!! PS> and yes, everything we did at KZZP in the 80's will be happening at this station..lol Just wait til u hear the morning Jingles!!!

Well the station is exploding, today in one open phones shot at 3pm, received 14 calls for requests, unlike other stations, we play them, Dave Mathews "ants go marching", Taio Cruz "Dynamite", Beach Boys "Fun fun Fun", Hannah Montana "Party in the USA", LL Cool J "I need Love", AC/DC "Back in Black", Pink "Perfect", Eminem "just Lose it" and others!!!! All callers went Live on Air...AJ, Mesa, Chandler, Gilbert, and San Tan Valley all representing...today the Arbitron Spring Book kicks in, and we installed our encoding software for PPM, it's up and running!!!! We will show by June, I assure you. I estimate we have 15000 Cume now after two months, and we don't have much of a budget, we will be doing a High School Blast in the east valley to Promote the Station and the 90.7 Days of Summer, with a Prize Package everyday that will look like it's too good to be true, we just signed an agreement with a theater, a waterpark, and several restaurants, deals in the work with a jump business, laser tag business, 18 plus night club, beverage bottler, and more!!!
We have a mix show on friday's "The Weekend Jumpoff" with DJ Perry, Friday Night Freestyle with Josh Dean and DJ EZ, Electro and house, The Party Patrol on Saturday, and The House Connection Mix Show on Saturdays at Midnight with DJ Perry, Metal on Wednesdays, hair band and New Stuff after 9, The Foreign Connection Sundays at Nine, and mixing in Great Local Music and giving them a place to get known. Sports Talk shows and retro shows on the weekends!!! Wow!!! This really is a great station and it's growing bigger and better than I ever hoped. The study is being done to maximize coverage and move the transmitter, and we've only just begun. 90.7 The Goldmine Footballs, Frisbees< wristbands, and Windowstickers all on the way!!!
This is a High School based Radio Station that is going to set a new precedent for NCE Radio!!!

It's terrific that you are being aggresive with your programming. Very good indeed. Just be careful, as a non-com, to adhere to non-com standards in on air mentions for your commercial supporters. I believe the rules are, any announcement should only mention the business name and location with no mention of action (like... "for a great deal go on by busters"). You may say "This programming is proudly supported by busters on the apache trail". Be aware that you are still in the non-com band. You might want to review the rules. They are changing all the time.

Congrats on offering an exciting opportunity to your students. Sounds like fun.

Thanks for the concern, yes....we can say this hour is brought to you by a donation by The Dickinson Imax Theaters at Signal Butte and The US-60 In Mesa, for showtimes visit www.soandso.com, i can't tell people to go there, give prices, make them sound any better than anyone else or so on, and as far as remotes, people come to see us when we broadcast from there, not come to see them. I think we're on the right track...the beauty is that I don't need to make any money to keep my station on and businesses can get exposure by a donation of goods for a sponsorship.

Well the music has been tweeked, to be more CHR Pop, esp after 3pm. If you listen you will notice the difference. Our Gold is much different than 104.7, 98.3, and 101.5. Example Fountains of Wayne "Stacy's Mom" will pop up on 90.7, but u won't hear it anywhere on those stations. From 6am to 3pm you will hear a mix with a little more gold such as Red Hot Chili Peppers "under The Bridge", but still more CHR then before. This decision has been made as we have decided to aim to be classified as a "CHR" instead of "Classic Hits" by Media Base.
More of our Specialty Music will be featured in Specialty Shows, House Shows, Local Music Shows, Classic Rock and Metal Shows, and Wayback Wednesday Morning Show. I don't want to sound like every other CHR in this market, Our mix will still have more variety then the other 3.

Steve,

Any chance of getting some kind of program schedule on the station's site? This would be helpful, especially for the specialty shows.

I'm not a fan of 21st-century bubblegum pop, but the recurrents and specialty shows are enough to give the station a preset.

Thanks!

Yes Eric, we will be glad to do that. And our gold is unlike KISS, Jamz, and Power, I'm not afraid to play Oasis, Def Lepard, or Mambo #5..LOL, I'm just one guy with my Ops mgr working part time from South Carolina until he relocates and goes full time July 1. he has built teh site, player, and handles the legal stuff right now...so bios and schedule is coming

Just a little clarification that my help you judge your progress. There is no "Spring Book" in the PPM world... just 13 separate (that is, no rolling average) 28-day books called January to December and on called Holiday. In addition, subscribers get weekly reports, which have limited demos, but the same sample size as the book.

So, if you have some contacts at a commercial station, you could start to see information about 3 weeks after the start of encoding (tomorrow the week ending March 9th is released).

I am curious about the "PPM software" since the PPM encoder is a hardware device.

Thanks for the clarification David. I have been out of it for a while as I have been waiting 12 years for a radio station, and yes, we do have some friends in commercial land.
As far as hardware software, as long as it works....The engineer can put it in, and I could care less if it's orange juice...lol
