I am curious if anyone thinks the music scene in the QC will change once the demographics change for these stations that cater to the older listeners.
We got 97X and Q106.5 that are playing mostly 70's and 80's music, to the person who was 18 in 1970, they would now be 58 years old. Isn't that over the most desirable 25-54 demo that makes money for the company? KUUL is worse, because they stopped leaning into the 80's stuff and went back basically to the mid to late 60's and 70's. Someone who was 18 in 1965 would now be 63 years old.
I know the age of the QC listener is higher, because we have an older demographic of people living here, but isn't it time to leave that behind and move on?
Many other markets have 2 or even 3 CHR's. Maybe Cumulus is smart keeping Star 93.5 on, even as it just sputters along, because they will have the advantage of being the heritage station when the folks at Clear Channel figure out they have to put more money into the stations.
In the meantime, everything is great for Clear Channel, but they have to be looking to the future. Having WLLR in your stable never hurts, but they won't be able to hold advertisers hostage forever, forcing them to buy spots on older demographics to reach LLR listeners.
