90s playlist:

Does the 90s,xm9 "playlist" change?
YES! i am aware of the criteria, a hit,or established song from the decade "the 90s"
however, it seems I have tuned in *ALOT* lately, and what was once a rare
novelity, to hear...or, a "ooh yea" track, is getting worn out.

Again, there are soo many, ###songs,to be exact to pick from;
but, the repition seems higher...HOWEVER, I AM WONDERING:

does xM have a "summer set" ( for example), songs that were either big in the summer,
or have that "ahh, summer" feel to them. . . and then in addition
playlist-1, playlist-2, playlist-3,playlist-4, (etc), in place, to mix it up all year long.

BECAUSE,
not 'tooo' long ago, maybe 6-8months, there was a different 'batch' of songs, that
were played to death, and now, those arent in "rotation" now...but, what is being played,
is the same-ol' same ol...over and over....*but dont listen for a while, cause i am sick of the
same 35 or so songs, i wont listen til....say mid-may, and it will be/or seem to be,
a "completely new" playlist, and/or a whole different batch of "wow-/omg,they played that songs!!"

(also: gotta update the "cliff claven" sweeper, do i like it?! yea, but its been over-used)...
but the theme, for THAT ONE SWEEEPER, is cool "if u lived it, u get it"
-same w/ the 'worthless,ads",...it seems those are the only two that use any
creative thought...its those, and the generic, "90s, on 9" jingle.

PS: 80s, on xm8 does this....
-they 'every soo often' use a sweeper, w/ intentionally, bad-out of tune music,
a "Bottom 40" "hit" , and i have , i think *TWICE* actually knew the artist,or song,
but no way in heck, remembered the song...well, does this forum think:::::::::::::::
-?-Would this work, for the 90s,xm9 channel ???
-Interesting to note, I have actually thought of this, if i had the
dream of my own radio station : ) but after hearing it, not so much
a fan of it.

I haven't listened enough to notice if there is a seasonal change in the library, but I have noticed that the library on 90s on 9 seems to be quite a bit smaller than 80s on 8. The 90s channel just doesn't seem to be programmed as well as the 80s channel. Granted one can say that there are more limitations to what tests well on a 90s channels than the 80s channel. As much as I love 90s music, there did seem to be quite a bit of stiff low/mid chart records and fringe tracks that leaned too adult, rock, or rhythmic to fit on a more mainstream broadbased 90s channel. Take Weezer for example. 90s on 9 will play "Buddy Holly" but not "Undone (The Sweater Song)" or "Say It Ain't So". Those two tracks are deferred to Lucy.

Still, I would like to see the library expanded. A few years ago, they used to do a 90s underground hour that featured songs that barely charted or songs that did well at modern rock, AC or rhythmic top 40, but not as well at mainstream top 40. I think it aired at 3am Central Time each day. I loved to hear all those songs that you couldn't hear elsewhere! They also used to air a 90s dance remix show on Friday & Saturday Nights. Now it is the same programming 24/7 that has become stale and predictable to me.

i agree, wxman.
also - at the same time, 80s,xm8 had the "toejam" (which
always made me think of toejam and big earl : ) ironically,
a video game from the 90s...

but yes, they had that awesome show, on the 90s, channel...not now. how come?
also: the "bottom" forty-feature, on xm80s, is coool...there were enough
"good" ( what is good?), but enough , and more recent/more rememerable songs
from the chart positions, #55-99...

and,
the sweepers/liners...that cliff claven is FUUNY,
but...it's worn out. if i dont listen for a week, i can
still almost guess when it will aire.
is cliff claven/"worthless" the only 2 they have?
-
grr....the 90s, were an excellent time for music,
but u wouldnt think so, they way its showcased on xm,
may have tune into my sirius 90s channel...hmm?

At least they will be adding Rick Dees Weekly Top 40 shows from the 90s. That will be a nice change of pace. Supposedly, that will air on weekends starting in June.

I agree. The libary on the 90's on 9 is way too small. Many of the good 90's songs they are not playing and they overplay many of the same songs. How many times do they have to play Third Eye Blind - Jumper, C+C Music Factory - Everybody Dance Now or a Cathy Dennis song. It seems like everytime I tune in the channel I hear on of those songs in about 15 minutes and then I turn it off. Also the Toy Story sweepers are way overplayed and I am so tired of hearing them.

The 90's on 9 was great before it went autopilot. They use to do specials, played some lesser know songs and had jocks. Now it is a autopilot stale jukebox mess. At least they added Rick Dees and that is really the only time I tune into the channel now. I listen to the 80's on 8 because that channel still is great and has variety.

Back when I first got XM, I listened to 90s on 9 religiously. It had great jocks and great music. Now I find I listen to 20on20, KISS XM, XM Hitlist, etc.

I think I have just about gotten bored of XM and Sirius. I will cut down my current subs (3 XM, 3 Sirius) to one of each by the end of the month. That will also give me online listening, so it's almost as good as having 2 subs of each.

I'm finding too many channels I like online, and XM and Sirius have become too mainstream for my tastes.

You guys have to remember....the 90's had the least releases (when it comes to mainstream hit releases) compared to any other past decade of the rock era. Playlist were tighter, and there was no extreme genres back in the 80's and before. 90's ...radio stations and formats were placing artist and songs in cubicles...that's why you hear more repetition just one 1 decade.

Directed to: Starbucks

*This is not a slam* but, this is specific to your statement:

You guys have to remember....the 90's had the least releases (when it comes to mainstream hit releases) compared to any other past decade of the rock era

OK, soo...like that annoying credit-history spot :
"I'mmm thinkin of a number"

ha,ha.

The number of songs, on the 90s, xm channel (generously) would be....
i would guess-a-mate, well, lets go w/ #90 ( about 90-115).

Ponder THIS:

if u take the 90's, as the DECADE, and go from (well...LAAATE 89, say sept, oct, nov dec),
since the songs were released/charted in the 90s, (IE: Love Shack)b52's

and then same applies for 1999,nov,dec*
*going only 2months, applying your theory of a quicker cycle of songs, but, the songs being
released in nov 99, would most def count, if they didnt become 'big' til jan 2000...
(maybe blue, eiffel #65) comes to mind...since that would take a while to make
thru the MAINstream....

ok, so now, compile a List of "apprioate"(?sp) songs..that could/should and would
be approved for AirPlay on xm90s, on 9, make it a list of 25...but every 13-15 months,
update the 25 songs, with out repeats....

so,
start 90s, to spring 91: 25 of the "BEST"
spring 91 to summer92: 25 of the "best"
sum.92 to fall of 1993 25...
9/93 - 9/95 25
9/95 - 3/96 25
3/96 - summer97* 25 *definately a different sound from the early 90s
Tighten it up
summer97summer98 15
rest of 98-2000 15
===========================
total: 180
plus throw in [+5 ] +5
(each year)
that screeeeem
"ooh #$%&"
they played that

maybe, a few
total +15 of +15
"oh no" not...
(that guitly
pleasure)
---------------------------------#200, songs,
and this probably doesnt even include any early
UB40, captain hollywood project, or...
later in the decade 90s dance that
they are *NOT* playing...

hmm...

In Agreement:

Sweeps of Cliff claven, "cooper wiring" is OLD !
(and, i luv that one too)

also:
what happened to that show, TOEJAM-Various,
they played songs like the jock Jam-remix,
outhere bros/etc...

and if it is more rock driven, why is
oasis,cardigans, either never played,
or always played out...it goes in
a viscious(?sp) cycle.

hmm.....

*POLL*
do u think the playlist is the same
and the novelity wore off?
