A few weekends ago, we threw together a Nothing but 90's weekend, leading up to our "MAJOR ANNOUNCEMENT" on Monday morning (re-imaging and re-launching). I had a ton of fun setting this up, and we got some great response.

Just a couple hours there.

Although many would consider this a train wreck, I would have loved to have heard this!

I wish more stations did 90's lunch/weekends....I have only heard 4 other stations ever do this. Unfortunatly, it was such a decade of fragmentation and it just doesn't research as well as 80s music.

Yeah, the 90s were fragmented, but wait until people start trying to do a Nothing but '00s weekend! The musical mix would be nuts.

I think it's important to remember the overall sound of your station. Even the though the objective of a specialty weekend is to give the listeners something fresh, I wouldn't skew too far away from the "sound of your station".

If you're a Hot AC station and doing a 90's weekend, play songs that a Hot AC station ( or similar to) would have played during that era. Sure there might be some songs that have become "tame" over the course of time, but for the most part keep songs that fit the flavor of your station. You wouldn't want to put an MC Hammer song on a station that leaned more alternative.

Beej, I've heard your station and seen logs of it too. Like the mess of a CHR in Marshall, MN being discussed, it needs work and definition.

Stick to 90s songs that Hot AC stations played.

Beej, I don't know you from a hole in the wall, but you are always level headed and sound in your posts. I like the selections in your 90's weekend and I think the only person on this board that knows the vibe of your station and it's position in your market, is you (or others who work for you)...certainly NOT someone named Truthsayer ;)

Thanx man (and no I'm not stalking the board... I just happend to venture over here and you just posted)

When some of my most request gold titles are the likes of Heart, Tone Loc, Digital Underground, and Blondie, it leads to an eclectic playlist. And when office workers are requesting Seether's "Fake It" during the workday, it does make me scratch my head sometimes.

Even I will admit the 90s weekend logs were out there...but it was also used as a semi-stunt (without TRULY stunting) leading up to an imaging change/re-launch that Monday morning. I'll post some of the new logs soon. Not much changed, just some more dayparting, and getting a little bit smarter on the library.

I can't say I'm the biggest fan of 90s music, however there are a few good tunes present in the sample hours provided as well as few artist/bands that were rockin in the 80s and dispalying why they weren't so popular for new material in the 90s.
There was also a small concentration of overplayed 90s stiffs in there as well, namely Smash Mouth's "Walking on the Sun" and a few rarely heard oddities also such as "Are you Jimmy Ray?"

No, then it would become the mess like 99.1 WMYX playlist!
