91-5 The Beat Kitchener Goes CHR-Pop

Wow, they did it today. And 91-7 The Bounce Edmonton isn't a hiphop station, they're a rhythmic-leaning CHR-pop, playing a low amount of CHR-pop. So Flow's the only commercial hiphop station in Canada now. And 91-5 The Beat in Kitchener was Canada's only CHR-rhythmic.
Edited by PassDutch on 08/07/05 11:41 PM.

You expected different man? US style Urban radio doesn't work in Canada. US Style Urban radio appeals to black people. Canadian cities don't have 25% black folk.

And what examples of CHR/Pop (or examples as "you" define the format) does 91.7 The Bounce play?

DHT, Caesars, Gwen Stefani's "Cool" (which isn't on urban or CHR-rhythmic), Natasha Bedingfield, etc. I can say 91-5 The Beat is an urban-based CHR-pop right now (ala WKQI Detroit, WIOQ Philadelphia, WKST Pittsburgh), but even more urban-based than The Bounce in Edmonton.

Newsflash: A lot of Rhythmic CHR's play dance music. There's a reason why the station is called "The Bounce." None of the artists you mention would sound out of place on a Rhythmic station that plays dance music.
