91.5 WFBK

I was waiting to see if anyone else would post but I guess I'll go ahead and do it.

Has anyone else had a chance to check out 91.5 WFBK in Fort Mill? The station sort of launched this past weekend after a test run the previous week. It had been simulcasting oldies WKRI out of Greenville, SC in the interim.

Jack Anthony of WRFX fame is programming it with an Adult Alternative format. On initial listens, the mix is a decent classic rock/alternitive hybrid. Not as limited to the 70's as 'The Ride', but much more accessible and less Americana than WSGE & WNCW. Imagine Death Cab for Cutie, Steely Dan, Jason Mraz, Grateful Dead, Adele, Son Volt, Traffic, etc. all mixed together. I think they're on to something. It sort of reminds me of 107.1 The Peak in Westcester County, NY for those familiar with that station.

My only hangup is that the signal is low power and barely goes beyond Fort Mill & Pineville, but hey, a great addition none the less. Can't wait to see how it evolves.

So, what do others think?

Wow it's only 140 watts...
Looks like you won't really be able to hear it on the other side of Fort Mill (near Carowinds) or even most of Rock Hill.
The 60 dBu only goes out about 3-5 miles, lots of translators are stronger, and it's just above LPFM strength.

At least it's got class A status (and not Class D).

Signal's pretty clear all over Fort Mill, gets spotty in Tega Cay. I've picked it up as far as Hwy 51 and Johnston Rd in Pineville but tend to lose it at the state lines on I-77 and at 160 before Steele Creek. I haven't had a chance to drive south towards Rock Hill yet.

I listened to it while traveling to work on Saturday. Just after I passed over I-77 and I-485, I started listening. I was able to listen to about a quarter of a mile from I-485 and Highway 74. It sounds like they are still experimenting with music formats at this point. Steve.

It's a Class A station, but has a highly directional pattern.

Jack's a good guy who knows what he's doing.

This keeps the brunt of the signal away from Western York in SC and Western Mecklenburg and Gaston Counties in NC. This part of NC is home to WSGE, 91.7 MHz out of Dallas, NC.

I seriously think 91.5 FBK, 91.7 SGE & 91.9 RCM are all way too short-spaced for the Charlotte area.
SGE has some good music like WGWG or WNCW, and I think lots of their audience is in Charlotte as much as Gastonia.
In Uptown Charlotte on N Tryon St 91.7 has a good signal but here and there was some bleeding interference from 91.9.
Now 91.5 is gonna add some interference south of town. According to R-L WSGE's 60 dbu almost touches Fort Mill,
so I wonder how they were able to fit 91.5 in there, maybe it's ok as a class-D but not class A...
91.7 has a good signal down to Rock Hill, if not for 91.5 but I guess the rules are different with the non-commercial band...

I Listened to WFBK (can't help but think FACEBOOK) everytime I Hear the Call Letters. Signal was Strong From I=77 and I=485 and all the way to EXIT 51B (''Monroe'') On Highway 74. AWESOME Eclectic Music!!! - Steve..

I had no traces of 91.5 at all in the Charlotte Airport earlier this week,
only 15 miles away. but both 91.7 & 91.9 did very well there.

Where I live near Gaffney, I can still hear Low Power 104.1 WHRZ-LP 20 miles away ok,
even only about 3 miles from 104.3's tranlator (W282AX) here in town.

Don't know where Jack's transmitter is, but I live off Gold Hill Road between I-77 and Hwy. 160. I have had little success in listening to Jack's station at home or in my vehicle. I wish him well.

You Won't Get It At That Location. The Signal (Presuming You Stay On I=77 North), Starts To Waver And By Arrowwood Road is Starting To Dwingle. This Is By Design. Steve.

Signal is Strong in My Car when I'm in the Area. It's Very Directional Though; By Design. It Serves Its Purpose. Steve.
