91.7 k-dance

That's gotta be the best description of all possible terms for the format!

It probably helps that several of the better wedding DJs in the market work there. If anyone would know these songs...

I don't mean it as a pejorative, either. It's the most fun I've had listening to a stunt format in a long time.

Oh, what is this fresh hell? It's downgrading to the tower behind the Pilot, and going directional?

What's he trying to do, Joe? Get 104-5 out of the way to move frequency on 105-3, rendering it even closer to DT? Why in the hell is he even in possession of a license anyhow? Isn't there a requirement still in place requiring any station owner to be a citizen of the United States? Why isn't that being addressed? Oh...right. FCC doesn't care. Gotcha.

99-7, huh? I told you Roy needed to move KROY quick, fast, and in a hurry.

You know what they say about casting a stone...

I'm casting no stones. I'm just calling attention to the fact that a 501c3 non-profit corporation, who has openly stated that they will use their radio ministry to lead non-believers to Christ, as well as promote the faith of believers, is acting in a manner which is diametrically-opposed to this goal.

Since the KSBJ Educational Foundation relies on financial support from donors, and these donors just purchased station and channel for $10,000,000.00, then see their investment used in a manner contrary to what they were assured their hard-earned monies would be used for, I'm just wondering how the donors feel about this deception. Integrity and reputation go hand-in-hand, and once you start lying to your donor base, then it can and will have a detrimental effect on how you are perceived by the community, and in particular the Christian community. This can translate to donations drying up.

Full disclosure: I am not a KSBJ donor. After this action, I will most likely never be a donor in the future. I also believe that donors and potential donors shouldn't be treated like mushrooms.

Nobody has been lied to.
Long tone. This is a stunt. This is only a stunt. If this had not been an actual stunt, the frequency would have been sold by KSBJ to another party and you would be instructed to turn your radio dial until you hear the NGen frequency for your area. This concludes this post. Beep, beep beep. Now back to the stunt.

When a church, let's call it that since that's what it operates as, programs music that includes a song with the words "stupid bitch" in Spanish, I'd call that a transgression, David. That's fine if he wants to program secular music in hopes of paying the bills at sister station "La Nueva"; but not so much if he is truly a called upon Apostle of God.

This isn't a lease. Latino Broadcasting is Hector Guevara. The program on La Mejor is, quite frankly, a direct reflection of him. For those not familiar with La Mejor, what they are programming would be akin to hearing The Murmurs unedited version of "You Suck" finding its way into EMF's or KSBJ's library.

Not something you'd expect from a Christian based O&O.

But the operations of the station are handled by a bunch of folks who have worked on the major commercial stations in the market. It plays mainstream regional Mexican music... and I did not know that ""stupid bitch" had a direct translation to Spanish. Remember that a lot of colloquialisms in Spanish seem to be dirty words in English but in fact, are not.

Maldita puta is stupid slut! For a church that preaches against dancing, clubbing, alcohol and ungodly things LA MEJOR does lots of it

Yeah what's going on here? I have noticed La MEJOR sounding bad lately

This is exactly what I heard, David. That's two of us that's heard it now. I just translated "puta" differently.

I understand that those that work there, worked in major commercial radio. They now work for Latino Broadcasting, which is owned by the church, which is owned by Hector Guevara. What I'm saying, is that as such, they are employees of a Christian based ministry, and should maintain the standards of one. If that's not possible on the employee's part, then a thank you for your services and a showing of the exit door should quickly follow. That's on Hector Guevara, for allowing something that has his name tied to it, air profanities on one of his ministry's radio operations.

Some will read this and consider me a nitpicking twit, and perhaps that is the case. The Book of Life will nitpick enough for all of us, that I certainly need not add to it.

Tuned in to 105.3 and I heard Justin Timberlake and I was like " wow finally the station is on. But no it is Magic 105.3 from San Antonio

In the meantime, what becomes of La Mejor? From the location they filed for, NE of downtown and directional, the format does not match the population anywhere nearly as well as from downtown.

Why in the hell is he even in possession of a license anyhow? Isn't there a requirement still in place requiring any station owner to be a citizen of the United States?

The license is in the name of a church, not Guevara. If the church is incorporated as a non-commercial enterprise, it would operate with a board of directors but would have no shareholders as such. Even if Guevara is not a naturalized citizen (which I thought he was) he can be on the board and function as chairperson without being a citizen.

Primary station: KTBZ 94.5

Still trying to make the religious connection here.

Why does there have to be one? A church can own a for-profit business and use it to fund religious activities.

The proposed 99.7 frequency will get clobbered by KVST. Just ask KOYM, whose clear coverage is limited to less than two miles due to the strong signal overlap. This is even true on the south side of the KOYM coverage area.

Even KHGV, which is farther south, gets grief from KVST.

I don't think KKMY is really an issue here. What on earth are the operators of the 104.5 translator thinking?

David, the Houston market is jam packed with stations, translators, and LPFMs.

And you think you have to tell me this why?

K-Dance seems to have expanded/refreshed its playlist already. The original song lineup had rapidly become quite repetitive.

Still promoting "big news" for Monday morning. The Dance fans are in for a rude surprise.

Hopefully, they'll stick around long enough to enjoy the new NGEN format on 91-7. I noticed it today, too. LMFAO's "Party Rock Anthem" came on this afternoon, and I knew I hadn't heard it on KXNG before then.

Monday, the engineering crew can exhale. Hopefully, the next item on the agenda is to fix whatever it is that's troubling 99-5. The audio on it has suddenly went way low.

Maybe they are waiting for 91.7 to come on the air as NGEN, so they can use 91.7 to feed the audio to 99.5
