91.7: What's the verdict?

AAA is not my format, so for you fans and critics of the format, what is your opinion of the new KXT? Thumbs up or thumbs down? I know there's a lot of opinions.

Love it - D/FW has needed a station like this for some time. Good mix of older songs and new stuff, and first hour was 25% local artists which is a good thing for the area. Already sounds good, and I'm sure presentation will improve further as they get the opening-day jitters out of the way and tweak audio as needed.

Love it too, some of these songs no one plays around here.

Does it sound like The Zone when it first hit the airwaves?

No, the Zone was greatness!

The best way I can describe it so far is Lilith Fair meets Woodstock meets Winstar Casino...

I think they are doing pretty good, although some of the stuff is a tad obscure. However, they hit a real clunker with Queen's "Somebody to Love." They should try to distance themselves from such standard classic rock fare. Classic rock is fine and dandy, but make it something that is an "oh wow" track, not an "oh God" track. Queen is an awesome band. But Queen has it's place elsewhere on the dial.

I don't mind some Queen or Rolling Stones sprinkled in. It makes the station more listenable. I definitely want to be exposed to new music, but obscurity after obscurity would get old fast.

Most of the songs and artists I have never heard of, but I do like outside of the box playlists. Deep cuts don't bother me at all.

Yeah, I love me some John Lee Hooker.

It sounds a lot like 90.1 did when they played music during the mid-day. I like it. It's quite different.

Yeah, the Zone was great!

Re: 91.7: What's the verdict? Need to go on KERA 90.1

Hello All, I like the format on KXT but they did not need to move out KVTT 91.7. They could start the format on KERA 90.1. They just needed to drop all the NPR talk SH_____T. KERA 90.1 would be a GREAT place for this format. I am a little mad at the whole KVTT 91.7 deal. I like KVTT 91.7 Christian preachers and teachers. I hate they are now pushed to 1110AM.

They were not ``pushed'' to 1110 AM. KVTT sold the 91.7 FM facility of their own volition. It was a business decision and they were not ``silenced'' by outside sinister forces per their misleading campaign.

I want to like it, but for the most part I'm finding it bland and uninteresting. Need to mix up the acoustic girl/folky indie with different tempos and styles.

Sounds like the waiting room of a hip dentist for now.

The irony being KVTT's preachers and teachers are ardent proponents of the free market capitalism that booted them to the AM band.

I'm happy as a clam at having two NPR programming choices. Excellent news coverage and so far some very good musical explorations. Aside from my daily tuning to the talk team that may not be named I might never listen to commercial radio again.

I thought that KERA should have the gone the way of HD with 3 channels ala KUT in Austin..... I still do... 91.7 should branch out to 3 channels of music. We need more locally responsive DJ's ---WHAT A CONCEPT !!
http://www.hdradio.com/the_buzz.php?thebuzz=393

The Kera - TV Dept. seems to think that a Digital CH 2 would be of worth....

The opportunity to snag such a powerful non-com radio frequency in the DFW Metroplex was irresistible. The extended reach for Pledge money on KXT 91.7 will be a win-win for the KERA franchise, I suspect.
