91.7 WUMR is sounding much better

Sound as if they may be back on an STL and no longer a low bit rate internet stream to the TX.

I don't know what they have done or changed but it was almost unsustainable at times in the recent past. I'm glad something has improved over there. I may have to give a preset back to 91.7 on my radio.

Who is the engineer at 91.7?

I contacted someone at the station and got this reply.

"the radio tower has been undergoing maintenance. "

Now hopefully they clean up the distortion which is especially bad on the Sax and other horns.

That is correct. They are on the County tower, and Shelby County has been stripping all the unused antennas and coax off the tower in preparation to move everything from the old adjacent tower over.

Yes but what would that have to do with the audio chain? It sounded terrible for a long time until recently.

I would think from my past experiences with this sort of thing that they are only turning the TX off or to low power while climbers are on the tower.

I have no idea. I was just confirming the facts of what they told you. Maybe it affected the STL. Maybe no one’s minding the store.

Is the older tower coming down?

I always though it was weird to have those so close together with their guy wires crossing.

From what I understand, it IS coming down. Not sure why, because it's old but still a solid site.
