91.9 FM translator for WMNR-FM?

I was in the area of WestFarms Mall late this morning, tuning around on my Panasonic CD walkman. I received a weak signal of what sounded like classical music on 91.9 FM (this being the West Hartford/Farmington town line). The station eventually IDed as WMNR-FM 88.1 from Monroe. They mentioned their translators but never mentioned 91.9 FM. What was I getting? (I'm not getting any trace of the station here in New Britain's south end.)

91.9 W220CH COL = West Hartford. Licenses to the Monroe Board of Education just like WMNR is. West Hartford is so lucky to have 2 Classicals Stations 1290 AM WCCC and 91.9 W220CH. We were supposed to have W220CE in Southington (tower on Meriden Mountain) as a classical station, but they couldn't picked up any of the WMMR stations clearly so the Monroe Board of Education LMAs the signal to WAMC from Albany.

91.9 W220CH transmits from the WCCC-FM tower on Avon Mountain in West Hartford which explains why their 12 watts or so ERP gets out so well. Of course running mono helps the usable range quite a bit.

Speaking of the WCCC tower, WWUH (91.3 West Hartford) just received a Construction Permit to use that tower as an auxiliary site with something like 230 watts at 300 feet above ground. They are currently on the WTIC-FM tower so soon they'll have two transmitter sites!

I've heard that the WWUH-FM transmitter is somehow a backup transmitter for WTIC-FM? Can that be possible?

It's the WWUH Main Antenna that's the back-up.

When 96.5 needs to do work on theiur main antenna, they move to the 91.3 main antenna and then WWUH is forced to move down to an antenna lower on the tower..

Yes, the antenna was designed for both 91.3 Mhz and 96.5 Mhz. It is used primarily for WWUH but can handle WTIC-FM at full power When used by WTIC, WWUH reverts back to its old main antenna on an adjacent tower. This unique arrangement is possible because of the close ties between WTIC and WWUH. WTIC has been supportive of WWUH since the station first went on the air in 1968 with an RCA transmitter donated by WTIC.

If I remember correctly WWUH's Classical collection hold many LP's with the letters WTIC on them from back before TIC switched to top 40. A collection that I once heard CT Public radio would have loved to get ahold of, but I don't think they do anymore.
