Just a quick question: Besides Armstrong & Getty, is anything else on this station live and local? Do they have their own newsroom to do top hour updates or is it Fox News Radio?

Armstrong & Getty do 99% of their shows from KSTE in Sac. They always have. Savage's show was just a feed of the national show, although he does broadcast from the Bay Area. KNEW does have live news and traffic, fed from their own newsroom, shared with Green 960 and the other Clear Channel stations in SF. For a period of time, KNEW had Jeff Katz, who was completely live and local, and not syndicated. Katz was in the midday for a while, then moved to evenings.

Wow - it's a 50,000 watt facility, but it's all aimed at the ocean. I bet Rush comes in real good in Iceland.

Dave B.

Great. His pomposity will probably accelerate the melting of the glaciers.

wxrs 1200 made a big jump in the arbs
Little more on Jeff Katz new carrer in Boston, He was at a tea party on tax day with Sarah Palin

Close...actually that is WXKS. The AM side of WXKS-FM (Kiss 108). Jeff Katz had been doing fill-in's prior to that at WRKO for Howie Carr who is currently suspended. But as Howie says "Entercom Happens". :)

As we have rehashed ad infinitum on the R-I Boston board and other lists, of Boston's 50 kW-U AMs (WRKO, WEEI. WBZ (AM), WXKS (AM), and WWZN), only WBZ has a directional pattern that is not aimed out over the ocean--especially at night. Only WBZ has a night signal that is half-way decent in the west-suburban area known as MetroWest. 1200's signal is not horrible within Route 128 but it is not a killer anywhere except in parts of suburban Newton and Brookline and the Boston neighborhood of W Roxbury, which are adjacent to the transmitter site. Signal-wise WXKS (AM) certainly is not in the same league as WRKO or WEEI and none of these stations is in the same league as WBZ. The most nearly comparable 50 kW AM signal is that of WWZN (1510), whose tall towers make up for a frequency that is a little more than 25% higher than 1200.
