92.1 CJQQ??

I'm NOT new to Dx'ing. An 18 year-old in Southeast Kansas and have been into radio as long as I can remember. I've read posts probably from just about anybody on the board. However, I am a new member to the site. So please be lenient on me. ;D

Major fan of KTBT/92.1 out of Tulsa, OK. Listening to this, it was fading in and out. Heard some rock but didn't think anything of it until I pulled in my driveway. Listened for ID's and whatnot, and to my surprise heard "92.1 CJQQ Q92". Bleeding in from Timmons, ON! Anybody else experiencing tonight? Wasn't expecting anything around here for a few more days!

Welcome here, and lenient I will be.

The sporadic-E season usually begins late April/early May. We are well into it now, until early August. Timmins ON from Tulsa might be quite a distance there.

As I write this, the first site I usually use is down....if it's still down, check the second one. I'm always alerted here to any skip activity:

Hope that helps! Back in the analog days, I once caught KJRH 2 Tulsa overriding my local WPBT 2 Miami.

Welcome to the boards, Caleb.

I live south of Ottawa Ontario and am getting stations from Iowa, Kansas, Nebraska, etc., So yes, I'm not surprised that you've gotten Timmins. Play around some more (TTBOMK, in the evening e-skip starts fading), you'll never know what you get. Welcome to the exciting world of e-skip on the FM band! :D

Good catch Caleb! I had stations from NE, IA, down to AR and TN, and back to IA and SD on a remote Global Tuners node in the Montreal area. [Yes Caleb, I do DX here on my own radios as well-but there hasn't been an opening all year that I've caught, and openings here are rarer than on the East Coast].

Thank you! Again driving around managed to hear CKPC in Brantford, ON today near Coffeyville, KS. Crazy!

I spent a summer in Parsons, KS, so I know your stomping grounds a little.

SE Kansas can be an FM DX'ers paradise. There's only a handful of city grade FM signals. the rest of the dial has scattered weak signals from Tulsa and Joplin, etc along with LOTS of vacant frequencies. I once picked up KSHN 99.9 out of Liberty TX one afternoon.......

That's exactly right. You never know what you can get! I remember one day KZPS out of Dallas was bleeding in on KSYN in Joplin! Sure enough I was also receiving KKDA and KBFB, also in Dallas. Southeast Kansas can be a strange place on the dial at times...

By all means, Caleb....don't limit this to FM!

If you have an analog TV, by all means, get the thing out & check for Canadian & Mexican TV stations (from KS, Cuba might be a possibility here as well).

And, if you have a digital TV....skip DX is still available. Note: there are very very few US TV stations using channels 2-6 for its DTV signals, but that makes for possibly easier decodes. Not sure about the exact skip distances, but there is KSNV Las Vegas still using channel 2 for its DTV (they call themselves ch 3, but that is for the virtual channel only). CKPR-TV Thunder Bay ON has been caught on its DT ch 2 recently!

Anyway, two of our members here have in-depth websites which list the actual ("RF") channel for these stations. When you use the TV, be sure to use manual tuning---you may have to clear out your stored stations. Of course, this is not cable/satellite.
