92.1 - New Owner, Same Format...Same Results?

Don't they simulcast KPIG at one of their stations in Chico, or is that someone else? That would be friggin sweet if they did that here.

I wonder what that means for staff there.

If nothing else, this means that Sacramento will finally add a bonafide broadcasting company to a market that has been run far too long by the big 3. (FB was hardly a broadcasting company so they don't really count.) I'm not sure how much they can do with that signal but at least they have a track record for knowing what they're doing. It will be interesting to find out what's going on in Dave Shakes' head. I'm glad they're here and wish them well!

Ps. So when will this be official? If history proves itself, FB will ensure a quick completion of the deal.

No, thats Mappleton who flipped the then Top 40/Rhythemic KZAP to what it is today.

I find this interesting with Results application to move KMJE into the Davis area.... This could mean a multiple station Sacramento cluster for the company

KPIG is owned by "friggin" Mapleton.

It's interesting to note that Results is the company that is trying to move KMJE 101.5 from Gridley (Yuba City) to Woodland.

At first glance I dismissed the idea of Results competing in Sacramento, but as a previous poster pointed out, Dave Shakes is involved. That could be a good thing.

So....anyone think this format and this station will improve from 22nd in the book?

Results certainly knows the format and has excelled with it. The number one 12+ station in Chico is one of theirs and it's 60s and 70s oldies.

Ironically, Results has adopted the "Bob" format in Chico, of which I belive you speak, and it is doing very well with it. I wonder what the odds of a resurrection of 92-1 Bob FM would be. (From what I hear, they still have a TON of promotional product left over. Maybe that was part of the sale. LOL!) Is that format dead in the water because it already attempted to launch in Sacramento or would fresh management be able to bring the adult hits station back to life? Also, how would it do in competition with the already "established" 93-7 Jack FM? This could be an interesting scenario. Nevertheless, I hope to see/hear something more innovative from Results. I'm anxious and optimistic...

Word is Results will retain Oldies format, they have it in other markets, although no word on whether heritage jocks
Mitchell and Hall will retain positions. Good luck Joey, Jim...our prayers are with you guys.

Since Results' KCEZ (Oldies 102.1) is doing exteremly well (tied for Number
One 12+ in the latest Chico Arbitrons), does one think - since 102.1 doesn't
go south of Yuba City well on Hwy 99 - that a KCEZ simulcast with 92.1 may
be in order?
Cordially curious...

"exteremly" should be extremely - sorry, the caffiene hasn't kicked in
this morning...

Results seems to have a very community oriented programming philosophy. Look and listen to how they've taken a very generic format like BOB, and made it extremly local. ( http://www.927bobfm.com )

I doubt that KCEZ will simulcast on 92.1, but it might use the same music formula.

98 Rock better hope Results doesn't bring their ZROCK station down to Sac.

Newsperson responds:

The link to the Sac Bee story has experied.

Could you tell us what price they are paying for the station? Plus anything else that would be important.

It is not on the FCC Webb Site yet.

I will look for replies, thanks.

You'll find the story at Sacbee.com 21q blog.

No price disclosed. The sale will probably show up on the FCC website soon.

It will be interesting to see how well they can improve KCCL and what they will do with KMJE if and when they can move it in the market. Both signals are marginal at best.

I doubt seriously if they would even think of piping one of their north valley stations. I have a great deal of respect for Dave Shakes. He wouldn't pluck a small market station in Sacramento.

Shakes is no stranger to the Sacramento market, he was among the crew that launched the KZZO almost 12 years ago. And that's when they were among the top 5 stations in the market.

I must be brain damaged. I was the chief at KQPT when we turned it into KZZO the Zone. (actually radiozone.com was my idea) anyway, I can't remember anyone named Dave Shakes. Can someone please enlighten me?

The program director of Results Radio's market leading KCEZ in Chico is no stranger to the Sacramento market either.

His name is Steve Michaels and he's worked on air at KROY and at KROI-FM where he was program director in the late 70's when it was called I97 and has also put in time at KGBY and KFBK. He's done a masterful job at KCEZ and even if they don't simulcast he would be a great choice to program their new Sacramento acquisition.
