92.1 The Beat Is On!

Thanks for the audio!

The press release on All Access:

*******************
CLEAR CHANNEL Top 40/Rhythmic KTBT (101.5 THE BEAT)/TULSA moves to the frequency formerly occupied by Hot AC KIZS (92.1 KISS-FM). With the move, KISS-FM officially signed off this afternoon at 5p, and THE BEAT has now been upgraded from its 6,000 watt signal to a full market 50,000 watt signal. No losses were made in the process, as everyone on the KISS-FM staff will find new homes within the TULSA cluster. THE BEAT will be simulcast on both signals, with a new format on 101.5 TBA soon.

BILLY MADISON remains PD of KTBT, while KIZS PD CHASE moves to Dir./Programming of the 6-station cluster under RVPP DON CRISTI. THE BEAT's air lineup is as follows:

6a-10am -- THE BIG MAD MORNING SHOW (with BILLY MADISON and BIGGIESHAY)
10-3p -- JAMIE MARTIN
3-7p -- KANE
7-11p -- JET BLACK
11-3a - CHASE

*******************

As an ex Tulsa dj wanna be (I grew up there but never broke into the market), I listen on line quite a bit to keep up with the market. I'm excited to see this change. It looks as if CC is very proud of The Beat product.

As I listened to the audio of the switch, I loved the "re-visits" of all the format switches on both 92.1 and 101.5 in the past three years. I once was a part-timer under ex-OM CC Mathews and at the time it was Christian LIVE 101.5 with Seth Andrews and Julie along with 92.1 Kiss FM with Valentine in the morning.

Than CC Mathews blew out LIVE and signed on The Beat with Steve "Freaky" Fisk as PD. Ha Ha Ha. (Hey Brandon, if you're out there... that memory was for you! LETS GO KARAOKE!)

Seth Andrews segued over to Kiss for mornings at that time. Anyone know what Seth Andrews is up to now?!?

Anyway's, I would love to read up on what people think would be the best format for 101.5! Let's review... weak signal equals a need for a format that is niche so that people will stay loyal and put up with it. Anyone up for a Christian CHR?!? Ha Ha. If so I'm in!!!!

?A Christian CHR in Tulsa?

Matt,

Since you have left the area Tulsa has been one of the few markets that give a huge option when it comes to the Christian format. As always, KXOJ on top with their Hot AC format, Bob and his crew continue to do amazing things and can go head to head with any KSBJ, WPOZ, or KLTY and come out on top. Sure, Live 101.5 was great simply for the fact the programming and imaging equaled that of a mainstream station, thanks to Seth Andrews (who you may recall had a nice connection at KXOJ when you were around) and his big ideas, PD Chad Bonham, and the Clear Channel name. As you know, LIVE switched to 101.5 The Beat in June 2002. The core listeners of Live 101.5 threw a fit, mostly to KXOJ. Since Live has gone off, three stations have gone on to fill the Christian Rock/CHR void. KCXR, 100.3 the KROSS was KXOJ's answer to Live's absence, but the KROSS has a more rock presence so it doesn't bump shoulders with it's parent station and the signal is only strong in south Tulsa. KJTH, 89.7 The House, Christian CHR, has their 100,000 watt signal bumping in and around Green Country, and back in October KWRI, Air1 finally went on with their 100,000 watt signal from Bartlesville that covers most of Tulsa, even though they filed for the CP as soon as LIVE 101.5 went off the air.

I would love to see another Live 101.5 pop up, but since Clear Channel didn't get the ratings needed the first go around, I think a Jack or Bob may be coming soon.

Oh ya, Seth has since started his imaging company. www.andrewsaudio.com

Hope that helps!
