92.1 The Rooster

Hey, did you see the ad in the paper for "92.1 The Rooster?"

Yeah, and I can't make heads or tails of it.

Corbin is listed on the Beat's website as the afternoon guy. Biggie (stereotyping big-time here) certainly sounds like a name for an urban jock.

The website listed doesn't work, I haven't found who the phone number belongs to (although I haven't looked to see if it's The Beat listener line), and The Beat's website looks normal, and so far (the morning guys are rambling on, and on, and on...) the station sounds completely normal.

It must be nice to have advertising dollars to waste like that...

Wouldn't it be interesting if they were planning a big format flip, some employees getting their walking papers (or shifts moved around) and the paper jumped the gun on the ad?

That would be fun, but I can't imagine that because:

#1 - The Rooster looks like, would HAVE to be, a country format. Corbin & Biggie I can't imagine jocking country.

#2 - The Beat's ratings are decent; surely it is selling moderately well. Why change from what is working to a format already on three sticks in town and multiple sticks near the survey area?

There's this feeling on my part that it's some sort of stupid inside joke that none of us outside the station can "get;" I genuinely can't believe Clear-Channel green-lighted the expense for this ad. You and I are looking at it, but how many of The Beat's target (18 - 24) are going to be looking at the newspaper, and how many of them are going to respond to that ad.

The closest to "logic" I can use in them placing this ad is that apparently The Big Mad Morning Show is "back" (was it gone?) and perhaps the idea was to get shocked and worried listeners to tune in and find out the show is back. (???)

UPDATE: It appears the number is Biggie's cell phone or something.... wow, is this stupid...

When/where was the ad? Didn't see it because I don't read! :D

The Beat is going nowhere, it has generated the only revenue growth CC can clain in T-Town. 106.1 The Rooster, now THAT is believable. This is a stunt, but if it's in the paper I'm sure their audience didn't see it either. They are creative though, A for effort!

The ad is on page D4 of today's (Weds, Aug 13) Tulsa World, below the fold. "Listen to Corbin and Biggie in the morning' 92.1 The Rooster." The ad gives a website 921therooster.com and a phone number. It's probably a stunt. I wouldn't want those folks to lose their jobs in a format swap. And Rookie, you need to start reading, buddy!! :)

Good point sir! I spend too much time on this here internet!

Okay, that is pretty darned funny I think. Do you believe they (k-hits) ran the ad in the first place? I'm confused. Help me out someone....

WHAT THE HECK???

That domain didn't point ANYWHERE this morning.

I wonder if somebody registered it in a hurry to point to K-Hits... loll!!! Whois.net isn't helping, they say it isn't registered... whatever...

Talk about a joke backfiring!!!

UPDATE: Wow-w-w.... whoever registered that knew their stuff; http://www.networksolutions.com/whois/index.jsp says:

In other words: we will likely never know who the guilty party is... way to go, whoever it is, that's great modern guerrilla marketing! When you see the other guy leave his crotch unprotected, KICK HIM. :D

There's no way Corbin at KTBT dropped the ball this spectacularly. You don't put someone's personal cell phone number and a web address you don't have registered in a print ad you're paying for. Someone at KHTT did this.

I'd also like to call attention to how much time was spent investigating, gesticulating, flagellating and pontificating on this rather mundane stunt. Christ, read a book or something.

Just do a reverse look up in Google on the telephone number and you get:

Zombie,

First of all, Corbin couldn't have dropped the ball because it was never in his hands. That would imply that he is a player and he isn't. He is a negative, short little reject with a complex. He couldn't lead a group out of a one way alley. Their morning show is bad and getting worse since Billy left, the music is all over the place and the jocks don't fit the station. They will die a slow painful death, can't wait!!!!!!

Tool. ;D
