92.1, What Next?

Now that 101.5 and 92.1 have swapped and made it official, what is the next format to come to 92.1. They announced they'll be launching a new format in a few weeks, what will it be?

I realize we had this discussion going but it looks like the site was rolled back to May 27th and our threads are gone.

Yeah, the boards have been messed up lately. Hopefully this one sticks ;)

I can't help but wonder if the decision to move K-Hits to 101.5 had anything to do with 93.1 being co-located on the 92.1 tower. Too much classic hits for El Dorado County??

Moving the format to another frequency is a bold move...they will initially lose some listeners, but obviously believe in the classic hits product, thus wanting it closer to the market.

Plus they've cut out all of the sixties music!

While driving through Sacramento on Thursday for a weekend in Tahoe I listened to kccl for about 45 minutes and heard Good Vibrations as well as 1 other 60s song, Monkees I believe. I did however hear a lot more 70s and 80s than they were playing several months ago.

I agree that moving it seems risky but I guess it's good they are sticking to it even with cc having the same format in the market. I listened to that station for about 20 minutes on my way back through Sacramento on Sunday. Is that a premium choice fed station because the jock didn't say anything local in the 3 or 4 breaks I heard.

I was thinking something along those lines. Maybe some "brand confusion" between K-Hits 92.1 and Classic 93.1. The 101.5 signal covers more population and less wildlife. :)

Some TV ads and billboards would be a nice addition in trying to bring new listeners to 101.5.

I say give "Big Jim Hall" a home and bring back Kool 101.1/101.9, this time on 92.1. :)

There will be billboards and advertising for 101.5 soon. There are already advertising avenues that have been bought and paid for. Look for a billboard etc. coming to your town soon! ;D

Oldies is a no-go (too similar to KCCL).

Smooth Jazz & Triple A are both possibilities. Another option is to take a slice of KRXQ's numbers with an active/mainstream...eh??

I also wouldn't rule out CHR...yes, it's overplayed in this market but Results likes the format with their "Power" brands.

You can hear 92.1 K-hits all the way to Williams easily and no 101.5 at all!!

That's because of the HAAT of the 92.1. Good for car listening, not so good if you stand behind a wall.

101.5 is far improved where it counts. Not that the fine folks of Williams don't deserve K-Hits, just sayin'.

Would a format like this work on 92.1? Take a listen, it's like Rhythmic AC: http://www.1063popfm.com/

No.

I don't think Rhythmic AC is in the cards for 92.1 FM. That format didn't last long on KBZC (106.5). I believe it only ran from September 2011 - December 2011. Sacramento is already rhythm-saturated, format-wise.

I wouldn't mind if 92.1 did a modern-day version of Z-Rock, like KRQR 106.7 in Chico (which Results already owns and operates as "106.7 Z-Rock"). That would be some good competition for 98 Rock. Either that, or a Triple A format that mixes in some deep classic rock tracks (kind of like what like KFOG used to do). That would be some good competition for KSEG.

Do you think 92.1 will have its new format in place by July 4th?

I would say that's a possibility.

And to others, I forgot about "106.5 The Buzz" and it's short stint in Sacramento.
