92.1, What Next?

I think a rock format such as zrock in chico would be the best attempt at getting ratings.... in fact... im 99.9% sure that a rock format will be playing on there soon..... ;)

Seems very possible. KRXQ and KSEG each pull in good numbers and Entercom has virturally no competition, except maybe some of what Jack plays. Sacramento is a good rock town, always has been.

Results has both Z-Rock and Thunder 100.7 in Chico, as well as a rock station in Redding. They know the format well and could potentially be very successful with that direction.

I think it will debut before July 1st.

Perhaps a ridiculous question but would they go as far as simulcasting Z-Rock? I'm not sure how on the cheap they need to be, that's why I ask.
 
A Z Rock clone *could* be a fairly formidable competitor to KRXQ --especially in some day parts. I for one, do not get Dog and Joe. I think that they deliver a decent product, but I like music, and they don't do much to add to that. I think the chemistry worked so well when Joe would join the show before his shift, and Jim Fox went with it. That all being said, a well sold and quirky Rock station could bill well and bite enough out of KRXQ and KSEG. Go Alt-leaning and you fill another hole, one that Entercom broke groind on back with the death of KWOD via 2.0!

With the lack luster reach in signal, could they really compete? I truly believe this has always hurt 92.1.

Just my 2 cents.
 
A rimshot Class A such as 92.1 can't really "compete" with the full-power (Class B) market FMs, but they sure could give KRXQ a kick in the pants if they did things right (assuming a rock format is selected).

While I listen to rock often, I've never cared much for KRXQ and am always baffled how well they do in ratings. Dog and Joe are the most tolerable, but the morning show is horrible, Pat Martin is a broken record, and the night/weekend jocks always sound like student interns. And there is so much good new rock they don't even touch...it's a shame!

I would be excited if Results went either rock or AAA - either would likely be a refreshing change!

Well we should know in the next few weeks.

I assume the studios will be co-located with K-Hits. Are they still in the same location? I visited that site when First Broadcasting was operating 92.1 and 103.9. Jay Rose did an excellent job on those studios.

I see your point, however: I don't see the highly respected Director of Programming for Results Radio leaking out an intended Format Change prior to officially announcing it. Will a hard rock station work in Sacramento? Good question, but I have some reservations. Also, just because a company is doing a format in market (190)ish does not in anyway mean they'll do the same in a larger metropolitan area especially market 27.

How does Z-Rock do in Chico and with what demo and age group?

I lived in Chico for 8 years - it's an "odd" market. Very country and rock and roll heavy.
 
Perhaps one song over and over for days. Didn't they do that when the sold 103.9 and thought it was going to be Spanish? The played "Mexican Radio" by Wall OF VooDoo over and over.
