Is it just me, or does it seem that 92.3 and 104.1's signals have been lessened since Katrina? I know that it doesn't affect anyone in New Orleans or anywhere near Vacherie, but here in Slidell, it's hard to pull them in on a cheap radio. Before the storm, that wasn't much of an issue.

Also, 105.3.

Back in November and December, they were stating that they were gonna bring back Kool in January, when the new transmitter came online. Color me suspicious, but I feel that Entercom could pull a Shitadel on us and bring something completely different.

1) WRNO and WNOE are also on the same temporary transmitter, but it didn't stop them from going back to their normal formats.

2) It seems kinda pointless to have run 105.3 as an FM simulcast of 870 this long. If they wanted to, they could have gone back to normal programming by now.

For some reason, I keep having this nightmare. Viva ciento y cinco punta tres FM.<P ID="signature">______________

Both stations on the vacherie stick still make into Lafayette the same as pre-katrina.

No it's still got a lousy signal 105.3 does as I used to catch it fairly good here in Thibodaux and now it's barely heard at times..they are still on their temp transmitter .. I know their RDS is showing KOOL 105.3 though

But this is CC compared to Entercon... and for some reason, they are better on the bayou than 105.3 ..even though the signal is still not all there here in Thibodaux, I still catch them to where I can listen (with occasional drop outs here and there).. 105.3 can't even hear what's being said most of the times

Agree 100% But Entercon must have other ideas... that people still want to hear the relay, that some of the 105.3 crew (last I heard) is still on WWL...Also, do they have studios to put 105.3 back up to even come from?

My reason would be WHY? the 2 AM stations barely crack the aribtrons before..most of the hispanic population in town right now working is either transient or illegal (and won't go buy that new car or product as much or often as a local would)..before I can't remember what the populations figures were, but the local hispanic population from St. Benard definitely is displaced and was one of the major hispanic populations areas in the state.

If they get a transmitter going, Oldies made some money.. But yeah, most of the listeners have weaned off to WTIX that I know (whose signal here is still not the greatest since before the storm when it did come in like a local before, even though it was in Plaqumines parish)..and I don't know how many would come back (It would probably take some advertising on tv to inform them for sure)

My thing would be, since Bayou isn't playing new rock after 2003, Citadel has basically gave up the rock market, and CC doesn't seem like it wants to flip RNO ...my dark horse prediction would be new rock

But if entercon keeps to their word..it may be a few monts but oldies may return...IMO before spanish will here (as I've said..when spanish radio starts on some good numbers here, then look for some flips to it)

New Rock is dead. Look at all major markets across the country. Alt and New rockers are being turned into all kind of things and even Rockin' Country like we have seen down here. KOOL won't become a new rock station from the simple business end of things. There's only so many male dollars and listeners to go around. There's too much competition for male dollars as it is. Going New Rock would be great for our ears but bad for $.
Take a look everywhere. Major companies don't even touch Rock acts very often anymore. Who was the car company that had sponsored the Incubus tour? Was it Honda? Well after using New Rock bands for three years of that tour the Black Eyed Peas are noe headlining the tour. New Rock dead. Pop and Hip-Hop as strong as ever and anything that comes out that even smells remotely rock works better on a Top 40 then a specialized new Rock format.

105.3 will NOT return as an oldies station in any form. So speculate away as to the new niche format coming around May.

Why in the hell would they wait that long? WWL has 3x the daytime coverage, doesn't need a simulcast. 105.3 also has adequate signal to hold it's own. Travels further than KMEZ and WTIX.

by judging by whats on now does it matter? every station in new orleans has a playlist of 200 or less songs. even bayou..1063 even repeats daily (outside the city)...bayou 95.7, wrno, b97...whats the difffrence? they all just repeat over and over again. let them flip to bubble gum pop of the 70s. it wouldnt matter, no one would listen long anyway..even if it came back as kool..you would here hey jude every morning..just like before..

Re: I Guarantee You...

I said the left field comment (about a flip to modern rock) cause I find it funny Entercon hasn't added new rock to Bayou and made it a true mainstream station.. You mean to tell me you are gonna leave potential listeners there on the table when a few more adds can bring the playlist a little more current .... and a place at least for displaced listeners to go (for the harder selections not usually played on top 40 such as Pearl Jam and the new Nickelback song)

But my original comment about it flipping spanish is my true post... Maybe in 5 years when C Ray finds his "chocolate City" ain't as Chocolate as he hoped, as some of the immigrants working now will stay IMO but not now...

I go with Weird Wayne and they will maybe go adult hits (as Jack is officailly termed but in some places is finding it's not a success and the fad could start fading by May for all we know)..Or like a station on the Bayou did which was hinting at oldies actually flipped gold a/c (minus some of the classic hit and 80's pop music found on a jack, even though their 101.9 kind of fits the bill right now)

But that's just my opinion

this is jack fm...

jack told me in an email that an abc jack may soon land in south louisiana..think they would try a sat format on 105.3? hummm..

Didn't you guarantee something else months ago that never materialized?

WHO CARES?!

WHO CARES?! Radio will always be the same crap over and over again recycled then spit out no matter what the format is. Why won't someone come out with a format that plays the UNPOPULAR songs. I wish radio wasn't all about playing a song a hundred times a week. Lets face it there are MILLIONS of songs out there that don't even make it to be heard on the radio. Someone needs to be DIFFERENT and STOP trying to sound like the station across the street. Competition is fine and dandy, but sadly, there's no more spice in New Orleans radio no REAL competiton. STOP listening to your know-it-all consultant and listen to the LISTENERS who write your station name down in their diary. Do research LOCALLY and NOT out of state where the reasearch firm knows NOTHING about the market or the stations they are calling you about. UNIQUENESS and LOCALISM are the keys to success. One day someone will LEARN that.

We can only wish radio actually sounded as good as 1978. No such luck.

What do you get when 1,000 consultants jump out of a plane?

Air pollution.

They are newer than say WRNO (Latest song on there is a Kenny Wayne Sheperd song from the mid 1990s I beleive) but Bayou cuts it's playlist at 2003. Every song is a recurrant if you will...

Laest song I think is 2003's "headstrong" by Trapt.

Surprising thing, for example, is the newest 3 doors down song features Bob Seger in the song "landing in London" great song to tie in new and classic rock fans IMO

That's what I'm saying.. there are people who like hearing the newest stuff and am willing to set thru the 100 millionth play of "bohemian Rhaposdy" for it but when the latest songs are mostly the same songs I burned out on,when it was on KKND, This is the reason I listen, but not like I figure I would have when they announced the station.
