92.3 Imaging

When did they decide to sound like a crappy college station? I don't listen much, but their new station voice sounds awful... My voicemail sounds more professional!

I agree, I don't really care for the new imaging. The weather/traffic beds sounds very weird and the bumpers are just not edgy.

Yeah the traffic beds are terrible. Sounds like bad techno to me, but what do I know about techno

I wonder if they are aiming for a "new age" or "NPR" type sound. As I mentioned in a previous post, I don't really like the new imaging.

Of course, knowing Bonneville, they probably tested it before launching it. If the audience likes it, does it matter what we think?

The one thing that bothers me about KTAR is the constant change in imaging and liners. It's almost as if they are shooting at a moving target, hoping to hit the bullseye.

how can ktar establish an identity if they're constantly changing their format, line-up, imaging, moniker, positioners, etc? kfi, knx, kcbs, kgo, kfwb haven't changed their sounders in years. ..and i think that's a good thing for a news oriented station. ktar's previous music beds sounded like news talk radio. ..now, especially with ktar using metro traffic reporters who are on every other station in town, the station is unrecognizable.

Well said, well said.

If you listen to KSL in SLC, you hear a very polished, professional sounding station. What happened to KTAR, Russ? No money for music beds and liners?

The new male image voice sounds like a wimp. The male and female voices
together--along with the music beds--are like a soft AC station's imaging. ::)

And taking this one step further, where's Deputy Dan? I heard others today
both in AM drive and in the first PM drive traffic break after 4:00, with no
mention of "filling in" being made.

The new male voice sounds like a real guy. The big ballsey voice isn't necessary anymore in broadcasting or imaging. Forward moving stations are going for the "Everyman" sound.

The traffic billboard bed sounds like Highway Star from Deep Purple. Makes me wanna hear it, everytime

Dan's absence is always very conspicuious. No one comes close to matching that guy's energy. He's the best.

Sammy's new name for the PM Drive combo:

Ham and Cheese
or
Cheesy Mac

Gaydos is my Elvis.

Deputy Dan is still on the KT'R website's news staff page
(at least as of 5:58pm), but we know that websites are
always updated multiple times a day, including nights,
weekends and holidays. ::) (Think jock pages on the
KOOL site.)

Making a slight detour (pun not intended)...

Is anyone else as sick as I am of hearing "KFYI-dot-com"
tagged onto almost every drop and promo over on 55?

Now back to our insurrection which is already in progress...

While I've regularly ragged KT'R, and indirectly, Deputy Dan,
for their traffic content ("west side, west side traffic" et al),
the guy's a traffic icon and his possible exit from KT'R would
be another unfortunate nail in the radio coffin just so some
corporate bean counters and market managers come in under
budget and reap the savings as their @#$% bonus.

There's too many "regular dudes and dudettes" on the beach
(again, pun not intended), both in and out of broadcasting.

It has nothing to do with wanting an "every man" sound... it's money. Jim Cutler is an expensive voice to have around, especially when you're adding a night guy to the payroll.

Agreed with MasterControl... When will KTAR decide what they want to be? I used to think their PD was thinking outside the box, innovating, doing things differently. Now more and more I realize it's just that he has no idea what he's doing.

This just in...

While a KT'R traffic report I heard this morning was again
a cold toss, traffic in the 4:00 news window was prefaced
with a "filling in for the vacationing Deputy Dan" disclaimer.

O-M-G....what happened to KTAR-FM. I'm gonna guess that the GM decided they need to be nice to get the female number up. Classic mistake in this format. I love when a new GM takes over a successful classic rock station which is deeply male by design and because he's cluesless from Sales, makes over the station "female friendly" cause the male numbers are too high. FAIL. This isn't everyman, it gives me the heeby-jeebies. Oh well, what do I know.
