92.3 Now/Fresh 102.7 seperation

I haven't had enough time on my hands to listen, but how are 102.7 and 92.3 sounding (given that they're both under the same umbrella)?
Have any adjustments been made to Fresh?

I saw a post saying 92.3 was rather rhythmic leaning; this may be to protect Fresh because they are anything but rhythmic. So if 92.3 leans more rhythmic (but not a Rhythmic CHR), I see Fresh having no problem and probably very little impact.

Thoughts?

My mom would like Fresh 102.7, she would not like 92.3 Now. My friends would like 92.3 Now, they would not like Fresh 102.7. So it is separated pretty well.

They do not sound very much alike in terms of musical selections, but there are definitely similarities in their positioning. The name "Now" reminds me very much of Fresh (in fact, there's a Fresh clone with that name in Philadelphia), as do the weak swipes at the competition. And they bridge the gap between Z and Hot/Power in much the same way as Fresh fits between Lite and PLJ.

For right now there is absoultely no difference, besides their names,
between 97.1 AMP Radio in LA and NOW 92.3 in NY.

Apparently you're forgetting that it's all based on HOT 95-7 Houston.

...and Mo Bounce is the voice of Elvis Duran, IIRC. ::)

... he is. What's the rolling eyes for? Mo Bounce is the Elvis Duran voice guy. http://radiomobounce.com

It's not that I forgot, It's just that I did not know. Now I do.

So I went to the site and am listening on line right now.
It does not sound like either NOW or AMP. As Hot 95.7
is not doing the 10,000 songs in a row. Maybe they did
when they first flipped to Hot Hits 95.7.

I just found it ironic that Mo is on Hot 95.7, which is also owned by CBS, and voices the morning show on 92.3 Now's competition (Z100).

Dave Fox (Z100) voices Hot 95-7 (CBS)
As well as Kelly Kelly Kelly (KIIS/LA) - whose competition is AMP. (CBS)

It sounds exactly like NOW and AMP. The "10,000 Songs in a Row" is just a first flip thing... Hot did it a year ago. "Commercial Free Spring Break"

I listen to Hot 95.7 online quite a bit, and I don't think Now or Amp either one sound like Hot. (Unless you are strictly talking about music). Musically, they ARE pretty similar, but productionwise, Hot blows both Amp and Now out of the water. They have a much better voiceover guy, better sweepers, and they actually have jingles. (Guess Now won't be doing jingles as they have a sweeper on right now making fun of Z100 using jingles). That sucks. CHR without jingles just doesn't cut it for me.

So far, I'm not really very impressed. It may change once they add jocks and get over the initial launch phase, but as of right now, I don't see Now beating Z100. Z100 sounds like New York, and is very personalized both productionwise and musically. On the other hand, Now sounds like a national jukebox that could be anywhere. Also, as a radio geek, sure it's fun to hear the Z100 slams, but I really wonder how wise that is. Most of the younger end of the audience doesn't even remember or know about the "hot rockin', flamethrower" references, etc., and the older portion of the 18-34 demo that does, relates to that and grew up with those elements and people like Elvis Duran as being part of the New York heritage. I really don't know that slamming that is enduring anyone in their late 20s and 30s to Now. Instead, I can see it turning many off. Right now, it seems as if Now is mainly aimed at teens and the very young end of 18-34. I think Z100 will fend them off for the more coveted 20 and 30 something females.

Unless they improve and personalize Now more into something that sounds customized for New York, I think Z100 will easily survive this attack, just as they did away with 'PLJ in the 80s and early 90s. From a first listen, I have to think that the people at Clear Channel and Z are breathing a sigh of relief. I usually really like CBS's CHR's, but they are going to have to bring something better than this to the table to take on Z100. Just my opinion from listening to the first couple of days.
