92.3 Now is really dance friendly

nd2023

They're currently playing Medina - Addiction in a mixshow on 92.3 Now! Don't think any other CHR stations in the country will even touch this. They also have Avicii - Derezzed in rotation, along with Mr Saxobeat, and Take Over Control.

I like the station overall, the only bad thing is Chunky sounds creepy on the air hitting on female callers and talking about risque topics.

I can see 92.3 Now morphing into a dance station within a few years. I predict first there will be daily mixshows at 5 PM, then more dance tracks added into regular rotation. And no more Chunky.

92.3 Now is currently the most Dance friendly station on the CHR/Pop panel.
Medina's "Addiction" is currently in regular rotation at the station and receiving about 17 plays per week.
WXRK is one of only a handful of CHR/Pop stations playing Chris Brown's "Beautiful People", which is Top 20 at the station.
They were one of the first CHRs to play Swedish House Mafia's "Save The World" (along with hot 107.9 Syracuse). Now the song's in rotation both at Now and over at rival 103.5 KTU.

The most Dance friendly station over on the Rhythmic panel is of course C-89.5 Seattle, an actual Dance station. 104.3 Hit FM El Paso is probably the second most Dance friendly station on that panel, along with Party FM in the Hamptons.

With regards to Alexndra Stan, even Power 106 L.A. is playing "Mr. Saxo Beat" (!!!), probably due to the fact that the song's Top 10 on Latino 96.3.

I wonder what the chances are of Q102 in Philly and 92.3 Now both adding Sylvia Tosun - World Keeps Turning. If that happens I'll walk from Philly to New York.

I feel fortunate that we have 92.3 Now.

They still bash Z100 on the air many times a day. 92.3 Now's mixshows are way better than KTU's mixshows. And I heard Ercola - Every Word in a mixshow tonight!!! ;D ;D ;D

I prefer, for the time being, to keep them on the CHR/Pop panel, or the CHR/Rhythmic panel. They're a much bigger influence there.
Besides, it's not like they're a pure Dance station - they just play MORE Dance than most CHRs :)

Every time I'm back in NY I tend to listen to 92.3 NOW more and more. Last time I was up I heard Faithless- Insomnia I think it was the Saturday night dance factory warm up. But way to go NOW that was a jaw dropper!! :)

LA really needs to "step it up" a bit when it comes to being dance friendly, or at least being as fun nowadays as they used to be the last time dance was big. KIIS and KXOL have some pretty nice mixshows, but other than that, I actually listened to my mp3 player the last time I went to LA, about two weeks ago! I literally almost cried when I saw how much a place I once couldn't wait to go to as a child just to hear all the stations playing the type of dance they did at the time, where I'd have three to four radios going and a bunch of cassettes ready to record as the night time mixes popped off, changed!

Here's a brief preview of all the stations that were once exciting within or near to the L.A. area alone:
99.1 KGGI, 103.1 Groove Radio, B100.3, Power 106, Jammin Z90, Q104.7, 102.7 KIIS FM...

...And that was BOTH regular AND mixshow playlist! Each one of those stations, while somewhat similar, used to provide certain specific content that you wouldn't hear on the other. Now, they are pretty much all identical playlist-wise, with the exception to the fact that KIIS and KXOL has dance friendly mixshows and KPWR is a little more hip hop focused.

I shouldn't say 'dance friendly mixshows, but rather they have house friendly mixshows in LA, I should say. A lot of house and "super bass" by Nicki Minaj, which stands out because of its "different production style". I'm going back to LA next weekend and I don't feel any excitement radio-wise, other than the fact that the mixes on KIIS still beat Phoenix and Tucson mixes when it comes to dance/house.

Yes, they play Dance hits. But I don't see WXRK influencing other Top 40/CHR or Top 40/Rhythmics to jump on unheard-of Dance cuts. If anything, I think BDS should make 92.3 Now a dual reporter.

While I love the direction 92.3 Now is heading, I'd like to see them spin more than just a handful of dance songs before becoming a dual reporter.

Z100's playing Martin Solveig - Hello and KTU's playing Mr Saxobeat and Take Over Control.

92.3 Now shouldn't be a dual reporter...yet.

I just have this stinking feeling that if 92.3 Now ever flips to dance, CBS will get rid of it. Just look at what they did in Baltimore with Mix HD2. They recently acquired an analog translator, and got rid of an HD2 dance station that had enough listeners to show up in the ratings in favor of resurrecting a format that died 3 times before in the same market on 106.5-HD2 and the 97.5 translator.

Just because a station plays a dance track or two is no reason to get too excited. I fell for the hype here and put 92.3 Now on the iphone other day only to hear nothing but mainstream pop which should be expected for a Mainstream CHR. There are a handful of stations around the country that are dance-friendly such as 92.3 Now, 93.3/Albuquerque, 102.5 KDWZ/Duluth, MN (that market has a history of dance-friendly CHR radio on most notably 102.5 KZIO), XHTO/El Paso & some others which is great but overall these CHRs are so far from the sound of even a Z103.5 it is not even close.

WHKQ Orlando http://www.kq103.com/ is also dance friendly. They just switched over from being a smooth jazz station. They have played Afrojack,Alexandra Stan,Edward Maya,Martin Solveig,David Guetta,Lmfao but they're a Spanish CHR. So you'll hear Reggaeton along with Latin Pop.

Let's also not forget a station that often gets forgotten, perhaps because it is in a smaller market...KLBU in Santa Fe (Blu 102.9)....it is one of the dance-friendliest commercial stations in the states. It's considered a Rhythmic AC, but bills itself as the Beat of Santa Fe..."playing the hottest dance and pop songs of today combined with club remixes and super soul from the 90's" (whatever that is).

In the last 2 hours heard:

Tiesto - "I Will Be Here"
Travie McCoy "Need You" Remix
The Ting Tings - "Great DJ" (Calvin Harris Remix)
Two Door Cinema Club - "Undercover Martyn" (Softwar Remix)
Flo Rida - "Turn Around"
Mike Posner - "Please Don't Go" (8barz Remix)
The Virgins - "Rich Girls" (The Twelves Remix)
